  1. Saturday afternoon I had a bout of toothache so popped a couple of Opiate Painkillers to give a bit of relief and early evening popped another couple along with my usual medication. Saturday night with a bottle of plonk watching the telly when what seemed like a rocket exploded just outside the window as I was heading to the loo and the dogs went berserk knocking me against the living room door handle Broken ribs first, which had me popping another couple of Opiates.. Those were the ""extenuating circumstances"" for me having no recollection of going to bed, rising in the middle of the night and posting a pile of s**te offendng friends who I humbly appologise to. The offending tooth was extracted on Tuesday morning first thing, the ribs will never heal nor stop grating against each other..
  2. It's many years since Benny and I sat on SHU Council and he was a real gentleman who I admired greatly. Rest in Peace old friend.
  3. To continue on this topic, I looked up the feeding mixture values of the market leaders and low and behold the protein value in most was way below the minimum required for the production of the essential Amino Acids producing cells to ward off illnesses including Viruses. For those interested followers of "NATURAL", My main base feed is V.L. Start + to which I add, Yearling Beans, Two Year Old Beans, Peanuts "for human consumption", Sunflower Seed, Flax, Columbine 4in1, and recently *Malting Barley* which I have never been a feeder off however I have taken a differing view to this grain. All the above except* were mixed to-gether and fed 28 Grams to each bird during racing. Since racing ceased it has been increased to 35 Grams and I have been very pleased with the resulting Moult and daily excercise. My losses % wise are nothing compared to the surrounding lofts with my higher protein feed and as usual no Young Bird Sickness once again for my athletes. I should reiterate that once a month they have "FLIGHTPATH" on there feed.
  4. Virtually all the Peanuts I have seen at feed places and super markets are unfit for humans and only good for the wild bird feeders so if thats what you want to give your athletes off the sky then carry on. The peanuts I give my birds are for human consumption and come in vacuum packed 25 Kg bags at £62. They are moist and sweet, with a shelf life of 12 months but never last that long.
  5. With the weather being detrimental to any Loft or Gardening work and the ground starting to water log as it done last year I ordered another three rubber stable mats and put them down where I walk over to the loft. The couple I had purchased last year certainly helped and where the dogs had cut up the ground last winter I shifted them to that area in the Spring. They were so successful this year I was unable to lift them as the grass had established itself well and truly through the holes and they are now part of the garden. Much has been written about YBS and one of the aspects was are you feeding to light "not enough beans" which has had me investigating Human Proteins and their functions [more she*t for some of you].LOL However, Proteins are required for the Structure, Function and Regulation of the body's tissues and Organs with the Amino Acids producing chains of Cells to help fight of Viruses. YBS ??. If you delve deeper it states all bodies require 26 % of feed Protein Daily to establish and maintain body function Amino Acids producing cells..Repairing Muscle etc,. What I gleaned from this information on the NET was quite an eye opener and perhaps what the oldies fed was the correct rations for our pigeons.
  6. Why not propose a 1000 mile race for the agenda of the SNFC to be conveyed in conjunction by the BICC or BBC. Beggar their logo rings remember Brexit, we aint with them any more..and if we can beat them then publish our own International result..
  7. David, I was under the impression the BICC run in conjuncion, races with IFC with their own, and cannot find in their rules anything regarding GB only rings. Perhaps Scottish BICC members can enlighten us on what would be required.

  12. Dave, surely if I had written a reply on the day it was wrote it would be correct, but, as I have replied to a post written the day before I must use the past tense and wrote would be correct. Now I did not pass my 11+ nor go to Secondary school very often so if my grammer is wrong then I do apologise however I do know my right from write or am I wrong again. LOL

  20. Did Jim Biss not have Turban ?.
  21. His name was Tommy Taylor and aged 13, his loft was made from scrap wood covered with old floor linoleum to keep it dry and he caught Streeters to fill it. Applying to get into the local club he was knocked back for two years as he and his family were undesirables, "to the local fanciers", however I persuaded others to let him in and we managed [just] and he obtained 12 rings to fly Young Birds bred from his streeters that had no rings. Competing against 40 lofts he won every race except the last one because some bassa broke in [which was not hard] and killed them all. I dont know what happened to Tommy and still think of him every time I am up his Street and the local fanciers who surrounded his ramshackle loft and put him out the sport. I hope they are shovelling coal down below..

    The Dash

The Minister at my brother's Wife's Sheila's funeral gave the same sermon regarding lifes ""DASH"" which many in the congregation had given little thought to. The sculptor was instructed to make on her headstone an appropriate very long dash..

  25. Walking the dogs down the canal towpath, and where their was once a pigeon loft now stands a new building, so stopping for a smoke on one of the canal seats had the old memory box turning over. It would have been about "64" on a Saturday night after the clocks had been read that Mr Clarke [i never got his first name as he was a policeman] won the race and we all nipped next door into the pub "Auntie Kates" for a pint or two with Mr Clarke paying for the first. When asked how he had set the bird up as he was usually among the also rans and it looked like he was going to top the Fed according to them in the know, he broke wind, saying that on Thursday when he put them out for excercise they flew their usual two minutes and landed on the adjacent house roof just as a feline was passing, He managed to entice it over to him and he grabbed it by the neck and flung it up to join his birds on the roof which had them flying for hours and if he caught any of us doing the same we would feel his boot on our er%%s..Happy Days.. :emoticon-0136-giggle:
