  1. I read somewhere the other day that they can live to 30 years, but I haven't seen any evidence of that, though on various posts on this site, some have reported having birds aged 19 and 20 years old,
  2. Your own birds Jim, they don't always want to come down especially when young, when they see other birds flying about. But the only way to score points in a race is to get them down, trap them in the loft, pick 'em up, take the race rubber off - to get it in a thimble - to stick in the clock - turn the key, and time them in ( as quickly as possible as you lose valuable time) ;D
  3. Beyers Electrolyt plus is good, a big tub lasts ages, 500g about £6, use one teaspoon to 2 litres of water, it is very economical. and has a 3 year shelf life - not that it will last that long !
  4. http://www.rattlesnakeridgeranch.com/fecal_exams.htm its for rattle snakes, ;D ;D but the method is much the same, and better described than I could !! :B where it says 'beans' substitute 'pigeon droppings' LOL ;D ;D i DID HAVE A PAGE FOR PIGEONS BUT CAN'T FIND IT :-/
  5. Last year Louella had two sales in the North, just 5 miles from where I live, however this year they haven't had any as far as I am aware, certainly not in the usual location.
  6. because it thins the blood, helps to prevent heart attacks and strokes and has been shown to prevent bowel cancer

  8. Some 'people' have nothing better to do than hang around in car parks that are frequented by pigeon fanciers training their birds, waiting for them to release their birds - North Yorkshire moors, DEFRA officials - seriously bud. and ask to see your vaccination certificate - its never happened to me because I can never find the car parks ( I think I have tunnel vision - and only look ahead - so I miss lots of things............LOL) Seriously, I ain't joking
  9. Hi redcheqhen was interested in your remark about keeping a copy of your vaccination sheet in the car when training,is this something that you,ve been advised to do up your way as this is the first time i,ve heard anyone memtion it. This was stipulated by DEFRA, and there are other things that have to be done if you train birds belonging to others ( I don't, so not sure about this) so we keep copies in our cars and my husband has copy in HGV 'just in case', I do know people have had to show their vaccination sheets......................
  10. Both of these can be seen through a microscope Sharron, cocci in their droppings, along with worm eggs, and canker through doing a crop swab, there is no need to treat if they haven't got any of these things. The only thing compulsory is the PMV vaccine, and don't forget to keep a copy of the vaccine sheet in your car when you take them training.
  11. I think Thomas will be really pleased George :-/ :-/ ;D ;D :X :X :X :X :X
  12. We take ours North Sharron because of work - and they got lost first time, no problems after that, Wouldn't do that with young birds though ................ ;D
  13. They are not allowed for racing in NEHU Sharron you are only allowed to wing stamp, you can't even use removable telephone number rings for the national. We use the removable type for young birds, but they have to be taken off for the National race With the removable rings, its best to put on same leg as union ring, as it does get caught in the rubber
  14. For goodness sake 'boys' , can't you think of anything worthwhile, instead of 'in your dreams.....' :P : : : Linda, I do hope you get summat better than a koi, Brad Pitt or.................. ;D ;D ;D
