Well done Lewis, great flying. Must have been due to the tips you picked up in the Alf Baker book. LOL

I'll ask the auld yin about the hen. I think that most members will vote for the status quo. Personally I would prefer the other route apart from the Otterburn's. Best of luck for the rest of the season anyway, whatever the route.

Point taken, but I have discovered through talking to various Ayrshire fanciers and visiting lofts in the last few years that there are a lot of good fanciers who are trying to build up teams for the nationals but find it impossible for the reasons you have stated. I agree with you that the race programme has to be changed drastically in order for Ayrshire fanciers to be able to prepare doos for the national or at least have the numbers left to compete. There are good and bad fanciers all over scotland,if the likes of Harvey Polock and Robert Reid were in more favourable area area they would be up with the leaders in a lot of national races. JMO.

Novice, I assume that you have at some point stayed in Ayrshire and tried to race pigeons into the area. If you haven't then you are out of order. There are plenty of good fanciers in Ayrshire, and not many of them moan about location they just get on with it and I have never been to a loft in our area who has sprint based pigeons most fanciers in our area strive to time out of the national races on a regular basis; but its bloody hard. You hear of fanciers moving to different parts of scotland to give them a better chance of winning the national. I wonder how many of them have moved to Ayrshire! Or maybe for some reason all the bad fanciers stay in Ayrshire!

Well done to everybody

Think that a yearling national would be a good idea, mibee from Newbury.

An interesting topic; but I think sometimes we can underestimate the affect the B.O.P. have on our birds, a good example being Friday's RPRA race from Otterburn. These yearlings were bred by some of the finest fanciers in Britain and were racing from Otterburn (200 od miles), they were attacked by B.O.P. with the result being only 2 birds home on the day from 130, as far as I know there are only 9 home after 3 days,I am sure that most of these pigeons will be bred from proven racers or breeders, nobody's fault, just wrong place wrong time. I really don't think that fanciers in some parts of the UK are getting a chance to find out what their best birds are to be honest. I do agree with you that most of us breed off too many untested birds and the east winds have not helped this year.jmo.

Times And Returns In Your Area Sunday 3Rd June 2012
pigeonchested replied to budgie's topic in Race Day
It's been the worst year I can remember and Iv'e kept the doos for 29 years now. Me and big Jimmy will not be keeping doos next year if the Fed continues to race down the west. We would rather train them privately down to Newcastle area and jump them into the first inland national. Hope you get your doos up. -

Hi Was it the novara stud sale you were at? If so what did you think of the birds? If you don't mind me asking. Thanks
-
Cheers

I attended the Novarra Stud sale to have a look at the Brugemman pigeons, I never intended to buy any, I was just looking at them as a future cross for my jan aardens. I picked out 2 dark ch pied hens and I got them both one for £100 and one for £60. Two wee beuties and they were grandaughters of the Brugemann champions. I have the contact details of the sellers and I would love to go and have a look at his stock birds,I was very impressed with the birds on sale. I also thought that the House of Aarden birds were class.

Was thinking along the same lines as geordie racing half of my team and training half to Hawick which is about 80 miles or so. It would be good to compare their progress as o/bs.
-
Do any of the members on here train their youngsters only as young birds (no racing) if so how far do they go and have these y/bs flew well from the distance races as o/b s. Thanks

A Scottish farmer and his wife had just got married and found a quiet hotel for their wedding night. The man approached the front desk and asked for a room. He said, 'We're on our honeymoon and we need a nice room, with a good strong bed." The clerk winked, 'You want the 'Bridal'?' The farmer reflected on this for a moment and then replied, "Nah, I reckon not. I'll just hold onto her ears until she gets used to it."

Three men died on Christmas and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates. "In honour of this holy season" Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven." The man from England fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle", he said. "You may pass through the pearly gates" Saint Peter said. The man from Wales reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys He shook them and said, "They're bells." Saint Peter said "You may pass through the pearly gates". The Irishman started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's panties. St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?" The Irishman replied, "They're Carols."

Training and jumping into national races. I was wondering if any fanciers in Scotland train their old birds really well and jump them into national races due to time constraints or whatever. A few fanciers in England do not race in clubs, just specialist and national clubs. Thanks.

Hi Old yellow The project ran last year as a class project in Invergarven School in Girvan for children with special needs, we entered birds into the RPRA One Loft Race on their behalf and we also ran a class project in conjunction with this. We have ran the project with 4 different schools so far.The first year we ran the project with 4 boys who had been getting into a wee bit of bother. The loft was situated on the grounds of our pigeon club, the boys were responsible for all the loft duties. They behaved well during the season, they appeared on Reporting Scotland and they won a Community Safety Award for diversion and prevention, one of the boys is now a full member of our club. If you send me your e-mail address I can send you some more info. A policeman from Doncaster phoned me for a bit of advice a couple of years ago (P.C. Michael Tune) and he now has a good pigeon project up and running. I think that I will be delivering the project to a village school next year. Cheers Bryan
