  1. So how long is a piece of string mate ?
  2. So why not use this or Ivermectin.
  3. Sounds like the right decision to me. I bought a pair from Richard and got third free. Raced the program and got 2 left and they were bloody young, for the first race, still got em and my older ones all went to Lamballe BBC 274 mile. I bought 2 Aardens from Louella also. Every loft breeds rubbish, so weeding out at every stage for me, and the basket will always be the best judge.
  4. milk with one sugar thanks
  5. Bugger me mate, will ya stop it, I only keep a few and none come with a nice long pedigree. Tiz a nice compliment but, I'm just trying to get re established after moving house. Thanks for your kind words gangter. My birds realy have to work bloody hard and Richard Howey's stood up better than any.
  6. Tobbacco must be as common as any for nesting material. Honey, lemon juice. Modern medicine only when we aint got it right though.
  7. Mine used to go all points of the compass on my cement truck. 50/60/70 mile at a time, when the weather was reasonable, now they hardly get a chuck. Got my 1st bird from Palamos and my 1st from Lamballe young bird, this year. Old birds had 2 chucks at 10 mile then went racing every week, young birds had 6 at 10 mile then raced every week.
  8. Sounds like the best way to start for me rather than buy stock birds that produce enless duffers. I would recomend Richard Howey from Northampton. I have 2 from 3 youngsters that I bought from him, and I cant ever remember keeping that many from anywhere.
  9. Well I have two from ecconoloft and I am very happy with them. 12ft and 10ft.

    Where are you mate.
  11. Tiz a good un
  12. He is a top guy, as we all know. I hope the other bit is right too.
  13. As long as your birds can't read they won't know what is expected from them. I would think your mate has done the best he can for you. My birds don't come with a long pedigree but I expect to compete at the highest level. A few years back I put my two entries for Pau, Bred from a stray Buscheart hen, on the table, and felt real hacked off cos the birds next to 'em were in a basket marked HM Queen. Funny thing is mine took a very respectable position. There royal counterparts didn't feature in the result though. Keep your money in your pocket, and enjoy not having lost money on birds that couldn't fly from the end o' the street.
  14. I too think you should feel honoured that he wanted to keep your bird. He did let it out again, with it's ring intact. It' wouldn't be much good to you, had he kept it in or cut it's ring off.
  15. I'm old eneough to know that you can easily get your birds mixed up. I don't have that many, but I am terrible at it if it aint written in front of me it could be anything.
  16. Kind of agree with this too only look for Barcelona or Palamos. (These are harder to find than winners.)
  17. Can't beat Bertie Bassets for me.
  18. like this idea mate can you give us an address and times
  19. As an Englishman in the midlands I hold your Scottish birds in high regard, but it does sadden me to see so many different nationals, north or south of the border. I was thinking of rejoining the NFC but they done it again with the young birds. I think I will carry on with the BBC and BICC who do a far better job than others.
  20. Now about this sprinters dragging distance pigeons behind. I have a pigeon in the pen that won Yelverton 179 mile and flown Palamos 751 mile. Don't sound like distance birds will slow your sprinters to me. Breed 'em together and that's a whole new ball game. That I would not recomend. Put 'em all together and let the basket be the judge. ( I can't get sprinters to fly round me hat but my distance birds will win inland.)
  21. You got to give 'em more time yet. I have late breds in the nest. These won't be trained till next years youngsters are ready, then they will go with the young birds, and be used for old hens National.
  22. Sorry to hear that mate sounds like the eggs might be a bit soft though. Try oyster shell grit. Give it them asap next time they lay it may be all together different. Hope you get 'em.
  23. Birds will manage just fine without the lights mate. When I start work it is still dark but I have a look in anyway and the birds often feed in the dark. Lights will affect the breeding instinct and moulting cycle. Leave the lights off. They will need extra food with the cold nights though. Hope you get your latebreds ok.
  24. Four year old grizzle flown Perth Pau and Palamos. Don't think its funny I think that's quite an achievement especiall as he has been hawked at Perth and Tours
  25. Got to be mine flown from Scotland France and Spain ;D ;D ;D
