They cost £700 for a decent one probably better to hire one with someone that knows what they are doing. You can get them from maplin. Not sure how far they could follow the birds. But when it gets too far from the controller it automatically returns to take off point. Just thought it would be an idea to try and see what happens to the birds.
I said a few weeks ago about delaying the youngbird programme to start at the end of August. You guys are training and racing youngsters as they peregrine chicks are ready to fledge the nest. Hen Harrier, sparrowhawk and the goshawk added to the percies no wonder the youngbirds are not homing. 4g 3g 2g k index don't think any of it comes near to the problem of the birds being scared to death.
Let's take the Norwich peregrine programme in the last three years out of one nest has come 9 peregrine chicks.....Now these chicks are taught how to hunt by the adults so you could have 2 adults and 3 chicks hitting the convoy at any time on route. If you have ever seen the damage what one Percy can do to a batch of experienced old birds imagine what they could do to a batch of youngsters. Oh and that was just one nest having a go they could face multiple hits on the way home.
