Cheers lads. I just had a look for Bamfords on google but can only find a site for their seed mixes, do you know if they have a site for accessories too? Dont mind so much the price of the b&r one but just that they seem to take ages to deliver some stuff :-/

Will keep an eye out on eBay, the long ones come up quite often on there

Hi all Apart from B&R does anyone know where I can get a feeder like this one... http://www.everythingforpets.com/16_bird_pigeon_corn_or_water_feeder.pet/use.id.5.item_id.2259.dept.140/

Bought a tin of the SMA Gold today, will start pairs on it tomorrow, 1st lot of eggs due out Tues
-
Sounds good Does it mix ok in cold water or does it need to be hot water to mix properly and allowed to cool before I put it in front of them?
-
Hi all Just wondering how many people feed SMA gold when youngsters hatch and if they feed it mixed in the water or added on the corn. I read on here it can put a lot of size into the young pigeons but wouldnt want them to get oversize or anything like that...

Cock not sitting much
pigeonman007 replied to pigeonman007's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Could well be the hen she is very protective of the nestbowl -
Hi all One of my cock birds doesnt seem to be doing a great deal of sitting. Have noticed with my other pairs the cock usually takes over around 10 in the morning and sit until around 3 in the afternoon. However I have one particular cock that is only on the nest for around an hour and it seems most of the incubation is being done by the hen. Is this anything to worry about? The eggs are 12days old and fertile

Hi all A canary breeding friend of mine has offered me 8 of his canary breeding cages as he is packing up. The cages are made from 9mm ply and are app 54" long x 15" tall x 12" deep. and are divided in 3. If I left them as is that would give an individual box perch of around 18" x 15" x 12". They have draw out trays at the bottom and I could put 1"x1" mesh risen on a frame over the draw out trays. Question really is would this be to big for a box perch. I can modify them if need be, but was hoping to get away without doing to much to them lol

Kenyon's Fertile Eggs
pigeonman007 replied to pigeonman007's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Thanks for the comments all I bought mine from some auctions on Elimar. They are a mix of Crowder & Ishmael Kenyons -
Chuffed to bits today :) Late Jan I bought 3prs Kenyon Black Pieds to re-start me in pigeons, they arrived 5th Feb and within a few days had taken to eachother and started building, by last weekend all had laid and on checking 2 nests today both are fertile and the 3rd nest look fertile from a distance but have not candled the eggs. Cant believe how quickly they took to my set up, given that at present each pair is housed in a 'pen' 4ft x 2ft x 2ft, I wasnt even expecting eggs until early March at best. He's going to be a daddy soon I hope lol

does the picturing of egg is harmful?
pigeonman007 replied to mamun2a's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
Hi The egg on the right looks a bit messy, just wandering if this will likely hatch as an egg in one of my clutches has got a bit speckled with muck as well... -

Hi all Thinking of converting my loft roof to polycarbonate, which would be the best out of clear, bronze or opal? Opal lets in app 50% light

Best way to set things up
pigeonman007 replied to pigeonman007's topic in Lofts, Fixtures & Fittings
Morning all, Struggling to get actual photos sorted, camera wont load to my laptop. Will try again later on. If I went with the 6x5 loft / flight option. How many could I keep without risk of over crowding? I was thinking perhaps 4 breeding boxes and 12 or 16 perches would fit quite well?? -

Second way would get much more sun and they could come out in the flight -

Hi Tony, Its pent roofed at the moment. I was wandering about some sort of UPVC clear plastic at the front, perhaps running the whole length and about 18" or 2 ft wide -

Hi Adam, I havent I was trying to draw something in paint earlier but couldnt get it to work out. I can take some pics tomorrow though -
Hi all, Looking for some advice on the best way to organise me loft. At present it is 12ft x 5ft but I only have a small back garden and 8ft of the 12ft length is only 1ft from a wall as the loft is sandwiched in between garage and house with just app 4ft being of the 12ft being viewable, hard to explain. Light is a real issue, at the moment they have striplights which I have on for the same length of time as they would be getting daylight. What I am wondering is if it would be best to turn my loft around, this would in effect reduce me to a 6ft x 5ft loft, but by turning it around I could have a 6ft x 3ft flight on the front and they would then get ample natural light in the loft. I could keep the loft as is and perhaps replace the roof with clear plastic to increase the amount of light they get but their view out would still be minimal. Ideally I would like to take part in distance races and am not really looking to race every week with a local club. Really looking for some guidance and ideas of possible numbers I could keep in the smaller set up. Cheers all Craig

Hi All, After a bit of a disastrous start to pigeons which was basically down to my own stupidity last year which resulted in me disposing of my stock & my loft sitting empty for 8 months I now have some pigeons again :) I have bought 3 pairs of what I consider to be very nice well bred stock birds aimed at the distance which I hope will set me in good stead to breed some decent young birds and hopefully take part in some distance races over the next few years. The pigeons arrived yesterday and have settled well. I will not be racing this year but I would like any young birds to get some training in. To get my pigeons some experience I was wanting to know, do clubs still have a training crate and would that be open to non members or would you most likely have to be a club member and have to take part in the race as it were?

A little, most of it is wheat and dari I think. It is a very clean mix, just not what i was expecting
