  9. yes i had the same thing m8 but my son did something and it stoped think he said he put avg on it but over my head im afraid
  10. what put me off the vaccination was most of them were saying if your birds have a touch of it the vaccination can kill them and the only way to be sure was to get the dropings tested and cultured over a period of a few days
  11. great set up and great ideas with a small loft just shows what can be done with a bit of thought
  12. sorry wull your right m8 was thinking of consett im sure ive got a hexham mea some where ill just check ah found it hexham 93 miles 1300 odd yds and consett is 108 to me so only 10 miles from otterburn to hexham for me wullie 83 tommy
  13. ive talked before about the benifit of storing eggs from your best birds ie more class yb in your loft ive just rung a pair from my wee jena hen that has scored 3 times in the snfc paired to my 18th sect alencon 1st sect clermont snfc this pair of yb will be kept for stock but i cant stop the hen from laying again in the next week or two and i dont want to move the cock or the hen to another section were there have been birds with sickness and i dont want the pair to rear any more so they can get on with the moult they will be paired together next year but not till last week in march so will be lucky to get six off them so instead of throwing the eggs out i will lift the first one soon as its layed and replace with a dummy then same with the second both eggs will be put in an egg box and packed with tissue paper and put on top a cuboard in a bedroom just at room temp if you pack the the egg box right you can just turn the box over every other day instead of turning the egg to stop the yoke sinking and sticking to the inside of the shell once a week give the tissue a fine mist spray with water to stop the eggs drying out ive done this offten with great sucess just make sure the room is not heating up and cooling down to much i have kept them like this from two to 8 weeks till i paired up the feeders but the longer you keep them the hatchability rate drops so im streching it a bit as it will be 10 or 12 weeks before i may have a pair down to catch them but if i get one out the two or be lucky and get both ill be over the moon as its another one or two yb off my best birds that would have been put in the bin and costs nothing better chance with 4 four or six but i dont want her laying anymore this year ill let you know how i get on with storing them so long something to think about i also do the the same thing but for a shorter store time by paring the best stock pairs in december and storing there eggs till mid january so the eggs are only 2 to 4 weeks old when put under feeders with allmost all hatching
  14. dull wet and windy here in lanarkshire
  15. about 24 miles sure hexham is 105
  16. morning guys

  19. its the old saying jimmy if its not broke dont fix it
  20. the books are saying vaccination for 7 years only way to clear the loft of it mick
  21. what if it was a national winner mik of couse tony is right saying bin it its the right thing to do but could i do it honestly dont know hope im never in that position
  22. id treat it and keep cider vingerin the water its suppose to keep it away but who knows dont think id kill it if it was my best bird its a rock and a hard place that one we might all have them in the loft and not know it but you can find out quick if you vaccinate them if they have it it kills them who wants to take that chance
  23. thanks pat talking about it is the only way we will learn from it pal hiding it helps nothing and no one changed days from tic beans and lindseed jimmy and not for the better imo
  24. suppose thats up to the fancier jimmy might be the best racer in the loft and you would have to get it tested to fined out m8 ask billy reid he has all the books
  25. i agreed with you jam but i found the unvaccinated birds were handling it better than the vaccinated ones thats why i thought it maybe better to make sure there is nothing underlying before you vaccinate them m8 as they seemed to be fighting the problem and the vaccination at the sametime and it was just to much for them but always learning jam will not be caught that way again thats for sure
