  1. whats not to like charlie a good show well run with good guys great company great pies tea and coffee even a beer if you want it what more can a doo man want lol getting a wee ticket is just the icing on the cake i think what makes the clarkston show so good is the fact you can sit down and watch your birds being juged while having your tea and a blether well done to all involved jim will get a turn in the racing ill make sure of it asking a lot with a dozen latebreds but deff with a youngbird team he will be on the same playing field as the rest like i said he is as keen as mustard and does what i suggest to the letter so heres hopeing
  2. must say ive tried most kinds of ivermectin drops and found them useless against quill mite and was told by a dutch vet over dose with ivermectin can make birds infertile so be very carefull how you use it was also told to try half a bottle of normal vinegar in the bath water have not tried this yet but if i cant get cloracarb i will try it but i use cider vinegar in the water which you would think would be in the pigeons blood and so stop the mite from feeding but it does not same with garlic it just does not stop them another problem is lots of fanciers dont know what they are and only check for lice which are easy to get rid of quill mite is much harder to get rid of imo duramitex works on them to 3rd of a bottle in a bucket of water then dip them the down side is it stinks and makes the birds feathers very dry so if your dipping them with duramitex do it 2or3 weeks before racing starts and dont let them bath for a week after dipping then plenty baths till the feathers get back to normal some oil on the feed helps to ps i would bet 90 percent of lofts have quill mite and dont know it
  3. thanks walt good to know
  4. paired my stock birds today yearlings will be paired feb and channel birds 3rd week in march found a few fat hens so they will be starved for 5 days so i dont have problems with them laying just hope it stays as mild
  5. cloracarb is the only thing that kills them m8 ive tried everything else and nothing is as good a full packet in a bucket of luke warm water hold the birds wings open slightly and dip the bird in up to its eye level hold for few seconds then dip the bird in right in over the head quickly and put back in the loft does the job this season i tried putting half a packet into there bath then 2 weeks later the other half in the bath and it worked all birds spotless and saved me catching them all so will be doing the same next year
  6. what did you do wrong walter

  15. cant anser that for you m8 i only race naturalsome of the other guys can maybe advise you on that but for traping you cant beat ets of some sort and the fact your not catching the bird means it will trap the next week if its good enough
  16. bang on andy if the loft is dry with plenty of air going through it then its just good birds good feeding and good training and a routine that suites you and the birds fancy lofts and boxes make no difference to the birds just the fancier a good fit well fed pigeon will race to a rabbit hutch spend your money on the the best birds you can afford not the best loft yes its nice to look at but it dont mean s t on race day
  17. last night was the last show i got a third in the old hens handling with the stock hen that won the thru the wire class last week and jim got forth in the latebred class with a young mealy cock i bred him off my 8th sect ypres national cock so was great to see him get another ticket in his first year keeping pigeons he is as keen as mustard and his wee latebred team is looking great and in real good condition for a novice and he is learning all the time we are just in after painting his new wooden sputnics in the back of my big van to be out the rain and give them a chance to dry before we build them up get the perspex on and fit them on his loft tomorrow we are going to fife to buy an ets system for him its just a pocket clock and base station the guys selling but i can lend him a pad to get him started then its just cable we need and he is ready for racing and will become a member of burnbank club on sunday at our agm so all is going well as ive said im not into showing but will miss our wed nights over at clarkston and the crack with a great bunch of lads hope all the guys have good christmas no dout we will be back next year if jim has anything to do with it he is like a dog with two tails when he gets a ticket lol well done m8 think i had them about 5 years before i got my first show ticket
