I really think you have PMV. It was probably introduced into the loft by a returning racer which being vaccinated did not show symptoms but carried the virus and passed it on to the unvaccinated birds. There is nothing you can do to help the latebreds---the disease will run it's course. Some will survive others will not. When the disease has run it's course it will always be worth checking for secondary infections. The antibiotics will reuce the possibility of these. Believe me this disease is always lurking about and will strike whenever there are unvaccinated birds. The moral of the saga which I learned the hard way is to always vaccinate as they leave the nest and never buy in birds unless you are prepared to vaccinate on arrival.

I think the manufacturer advise before mating to guarantee paratyphoid free youngsters but I could be wrong. Best not during the moult

I would like to think that if this is the case then all unions should be attempting to talk to appropriate authorities to be informed of irregular air activities in advance. I am sure the authorities should advise us because of the safety implications for the pilots.

I appreciate that some may be run for profit but I don't think they are all in that category. Despite the fact that it is located in the hawk infested west of Scotland I have been impressed by the organisation of the Scottish Classic One Loft Race and now that my birds are back on track I may support this next season. Being bred from generations of pigeons racing into this area this race seems a much better bet to me than sending them to a foreign climate.

So what about this race program then?

Does this sound logical to you lads. Have a race programn mainly east but give the race controller the authority to swap an easterly race point for an equivelent westerly one if he feels that clashing or weather conditions will give rise to a bad race. Okshoot me down in flames

I went there last year. It is much smaller scale than Blackpool but on the positive side you can look at the trade stands in a much more relaxed manner.

Hi, you know the specific cause of the illness so whoever diagnosed this should say whether or not to give grit/minerals. As far as I am aware the antibiotics which you cannot do this with are the mycin group. Amoxy is not a member of this group. I admit I have been known to be wrong on occasions so it is worthwhile withdrawing grit/minerals as a precaution. Good luck
