a very good idea to give a bath a day or two before eggs hatch. but they should have a bath once a week or access to the rain i.e avirey.

The term champion can be very open and one persons champion is another's also ran. As already stated you have to look into the results to see the true facts and look beyond the headlines i.e birdage etc and look at the quality they are flying against . The organzation we fly in does not have huge birdage 500-700 birds but has some of the top fanciers in Essex in it as it's members have won the following in the last 2 seasons. it has to be one of the strongest clubs in the country Leigh – on-sea a club that has won 6x1st, 7x2nd,6X3rd,7X4th,6X5th,6X6th,2x7th,5X8th 1X9th 5X10th +39 other cards between 11th & 20th in 2 seasons in the NFC & BICC. I have a bird that i call a super rather then a champion she won the following in national and classic races. 9th section 20th open London & southeast classic 20th section 20th open BICC 5th section 64th open London &southeast classic 82nd section 88th open NFC 23rd section 75th open London &southeast classic plus club positions. In 5 races she has been entered in national and classic racing her worst position is 88th open. Yet her father i would class as a champion breeder as not only has he bred her he is also responsable for 1st sec (by nearly 10min) 6th open Central southern classic flying club as well as many other top performance birds inland racing. and still only 4 years old. The key is to do your home work and look at the quality the results are against

Eggs should hatch fine have often left them 18 hours + When they have gone to a race and they still hatch ok. can not see why 2 cocks could not rear fine as both the cock and hen feed once they hatch so can not see any difference -
I have found JM to be very good so far

Joe61- I will answer both of your posts. question 1 would i sell if the price is right? the answer is no no and no i would not i have turned down 4 figure sums for my birds and i have put very well bred birds in the bin that i have paid over a £1000 for and could easy have sold and got my money back on, but that is not my style. Question 2 when did the thread come about me selling birds i did not think it had on various posts people had mentioned putting birds etc in the bin that were no good and about no good old birds being sold on etc. and i was just adding a input at i thought this was the idea of a forum talking things through and offering advice etc. P.S i am not sure who you are but if you have 23 pair and Nearly all are breeding fed winners i would be intrested to hear about your birds and system mate because that is very good breeding by anyone standards. how many stock birds did you start with to select to this number etc. Thanks in advance John

How is the breeding going mate? hope all is ok John

What makes me wonder is people moan about people selling old birds that are no good (which i totally agree with) but who buys these birds is what i would like to know because i would not buy old birds unless it was a entire clearence sale and a genuine one at that or i new the person and reason the birds were for sale. As who in there right mind would sell a good old bird. we have the policy we do not sell old bird's that has been bred from and we do not buy old birds unless we know all about the birds and there is a very good reason why they are for sale. which is not often. Buy a kit of y/b's and find your own stock team from them over 2 or 3 years is a lot more likely way to the top in my eyes John

My partner had a 19 year old cock that died this winter after breeding 4 yb's last year the oldest i have is 10 year old

Do i fly in the biggest club with 35 members?
john@formula 1 lofts replied to kwango's topic in Notice Board
I think our membership is 47 at the moment around 30 send regular and about half the membership have won one or more nationals/classics or combines. Leigh club must be one of the strongest clubs in the country a club that has won 6x1st, 7x2nd,6X3rd,7X4th,6X5th,6X6th,2x7th,5X8th 1X9th 5X10th +39 other cards between 11th & 20th in 2 seasons in the NFC & BICC. . -

No worries mate - to be honest we do not advertize either very much The RW seem to sell therselfs and as with any new family we buy like with the SVR we like to try them ourselfs first and let a few go to good causes friends etc to make sure they are up to it and with the SVR we have got to the level were we are happy to sell them from this season onwards as some of the results have been top draw from these birds in the sprint/middle distance races. cheers John

we have the very best from mark caudwell and we will have some y/b's for sale during the season. All the best John

Help !! New loft, do I get OB's or YB's?
john@formula 1 lofts replied to a topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
I would say the best way for you to go as a fresh starter would be to join a local club ASAP get talking to the members and i am sure they will sort you out a few y/b's to race with this year. and in the summer time work out what room you have and maybe if you have enough room buy 6 latebreds from two different lofts which are racing and breeding winners for others and you can let them out and settle them to your loft you can then bred from these the following season. This will give you a good solid start to the sport. Remember to do your home work when buying birds in as all the glitters is not gold. The most important thing i look for is there are breeding winners for others not just there selfs. Hope this helps John -

I had a really upsetting sight today walked down the garden and found feathers from a sparrow hawk over the garden been eaten by a fox what a shame ha ha - makes a change from my pigeons

Spot on Chrisss i was reading the other posts and was going to post the same as you have. A lot more good then bad in pigeons. But like most things there is always one or two who take the pi*s and give the rest a bad name John

Have a look on this link for some super soonjens from two cracking fanciers that have the old original's which win at the very highest levels. This is a club sale to raise club funds Lot 6 Mr & Mrs Buckfield are offering a pair of super Soonjens from there best lines this is one of if not the best sprint lofts in Essex this partnership have won everything you can win on the north including the Essex combine a good few times. They have turned South in the last few years again winning many races in the sprint to middle distances. However on there first go at the international races this year from Tarbes they ended up 55th open BICC. Lot 7 Tony Buckfield Again are offering a Pair of 2009 y/b’s from there Super Soonjens from there best bloodlines. In 2008 this loft has been unbelievable twice taking the 1st 20 positions in the leigh club and ending up highest prize winners. But that is not all Tony also won the section in the BICC from Alencon also 3rd open flying 40 – 50 mile further then all the birds around him in the result. This bird was also nearly 10 min in front of the next bird in the section (some performance) Like his Mum & Dad Tony won all there was to win on the North before turning south. http://www.pigeon-chat.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=20375&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30
