Has to be Strike for me -
Ronnie what you are talking about is something very diferent yours is a very good bird not a lucky bird a lucky one does not get lucky 2 or 3 times. and there are wins which are pure luck or fluke and what you do not want to do is build a team around a lucky or flukey winner or indeed buy someone elses lucky/flukey winner as it will put you back 3 or 4 years . You need to no more about the race was it a diaster because of the weather or conditions how far was it from. any race under 450 mile were only 10% is home there must be something serious wrong which puts in doubt the value of the performence of the bird in question in my view. i would want to look at the vel for the day was it the rough vel you would expect on the day or not and the bird in question had it done well before or not. i remember a race years ago in a mid week club i flew in when there was only 1 bird home on the day it was about 2 hours behind when it should have been and on speaking to the fancier whose bird it was he said it is always last bird home normal about 2 hours behind. left me thinking the rest hit bad weather which had cleared by the time this bird got there. did this win make this a good bird of course not like all the other weeks it was the worst bird in the race it just got lucky that day. i have used these guys and they have been fine picked up one day amd delivered next day up country kept in touch through out did take a few days from my first inqury to them being able to pick up but that is fine as they said when it would be and it was when they said. John

sorry Mark did not make my point clear yes i would race any from club sales etc but if i brought y/b's latbreds from a top fancier stud etc i would and do put them to stock and sort them that way over 2 or seasons takes a little longer but the best races are not always the best breeders
-
HI David It depends on what you are looking for there are options mate which do not break the bank. you could look local to you and ask a top local fancier for the eggs from his widow cocks for a fair price. or local sales of y/b's for club funds or futurity sales are often a good source of quality birds at a cheap price. or if you want to spend a little more there are always plenty of good birds for sale at a decent price. i honestly think to get decent birds at a fair price the best way is to buy a team of y/b's/latebreds and find the best ones from them.

I did it this year with my old birds did not break the y/b'S as y/b loft was staying at old address. but i broke old birds to a new loft and location half a mile away in a couple of weeks. and these birds went on to win 8x1sts. only 2 birds which would not break from 20 after a few attempts i gave up on them 2. Hi mate get them tested but my guess would be streppicocci or e-coli. will need to be treated with antbiotic most likely Amoxicillin but the vet will tell you what is best for your birds. good luck mate but i have heard quite a few people are having issues like this at the moment. John

Thanks Roland I think it is very important to back up any claims made as much as poss. glad you liked the site mate. any please feel free to ask any questions you or anyone else likes. John

As someone who sells birds i would expect any buyer to ask all the questions they liked to make themselfs happy that they were getting a square deal. i know i do when i buy birds. and any claims made by a seller should be backed up with fact. John

birds are dying
john@formula 1 lofts replied to bobtail's topic in Help - What's wrong with my bird?
call Ian Cameron from Manor court vets in chesire a pigeon fancier and a top vet number is 01829740639 as others have said it sounds like circovirus and i have heard there is hell of a lot of it about at the moment. they will need some sort of Antibiotic Ian will test which is the best one for this outbreak as it seems to differ from strain to strain. but get on to thgis asap as it will kill a lot of them from what i have been told. hope this helps John -

hammond and whitteker grooters
john@formula 1 lofts replied to cheeseman's topic in Breeding, Strains & Families
I brought some of these back in 1985 from a bereavement sale in Kent. we brought 6 5 direct from H&W birds. unfortunately we only got a short time with these as due to the gales of 1987 our stock loft was damaged and all birds were lost. but we did get have 1 cock that won well for us at the distance. and the guy we brought them from won many 500+ races. these were the iron and dark grizzels. all the best John -
Dazza What i am talking about is the old distance lines pigeons that do not get started to 500 mile but like 700-800 mile races. in my loft in which i have out and out sprint pigeons (SVR) middle distance (gabys) & (Ron Williamsons) and some proper distance lines. new for 2008 i have found that in training and races these birds have nearly always been after my other birds even from a short 12 mile spin. maybe they are no good but as they are still there i am willing to give them a chance also the only other real distance bird i had which was gifted to me when a friend left the sport. always was last home inland and often came by himself training. but did fly Dax international,Bergerec twice, Bordeaux, all on the day also flew Perpignan just out of race time as a yearling before i broke him as a two year old to my house. i then broke him again when i moved this year and he raced alencon and Tours at 8 years old.
-
Hi mate i think sprint - middle are fine but i think if you have proper long distance lines it can break the flock up a bit when training. or may slow down the sprint birds a little. fine to keep them in same loft section but i would train them separte. hope this helps John

We have brought a lot of Mark Caudwell SVR and these are very first birds.

not 100% sure when he put them on the dark i will check for you and yes they were feed the same as the y/b's

well my partner in formula 1 lofts John Cowlin did this for the first time this season he put 6 hens in the y/b section and left them with the y/b's. they were put on darkness and did not get trained until the y/b's did and were only lightly raced with the y/b's he sent 4 to the bicc and took 7th 8th and 28th open he then sent them back to the NFC race and won 1st open NFC. hope this helps John

We had a great season at Formula 1 lofts following my house move in April. we still managed 16 X 1st and bred two National winners 1 in the NFC and the other in the BICC also 1st section 6th open central southern classic came from our bloodlines. + many fed and club winners for others. I only broke a few old birds out so bred a big team of y/b's but will have 60 odd for old birds racing next season. all being well. all the best John Gladwin
