  5. yip.. another record broken ;D the last record i broke, ;D ;D ;D,,,was vera lyn singing" the white cliffs of dover" ;D ;D ;D
  6. lofts are cleaned to keep desease down,, scraping is one way,, a good deep litter is another ,, but a build up of damp droppings in any loft, will be a haven for cocci, worms etc, this would also throw off a strong amonia, and bad for pigeons respiratory system. drinkers left , will collect dust etc, then form an algae, which in my opinion can contain bacteria,, [comunial drinkers can be the biggest threat of spreading any desease, if left to gather dirt] better with fresh" tapolene" ;D ;D ;D as often as poss,,,,,it costs nowt [a true scot ;D]
  7. thank you free bird, , doing ok,, just wish the weather would improve ,,ahh well we can allways hope ;D
  8. summer????? must be sun day ;D ;D ;D
  9. i can understand well what you are saying,,, and agree, , but can also understand any young fancier getting birds from many different lofts, maybe worried that any underlying infections etc,,, could in fact, infect your ones , that, on leaving your lofts were perfectly healthy!!! maybe best for novices to make sure that any new yb,s that they bring in , come from lofts they know to be clean and free from desease. such as your own,,,,,,, if this is not a novice and he/she does this as a regular habit, with all their own young birds, i would think these treatments would inhibit the yb,s immune system , and in my opinion most inadvisable
  10. my advice would be,, have their droppings tested,[its cheaper than buying medications, that you may well not be needing to give them] , keep few , but select pigeons, a clean dry, well ventilated loft, and very good loft husbandry [loft management] again, the best of luck thomas
  11. this was used many times in the past,,,,to purge birds,, but why purge healthy birds?? better than epsom salts,,, is winning a race ;D ;D ;D then doing ,,,, SUMMERSALTS ;D ;D ;D good luck thomas
  12. i think your old grandad, allthough a little blunt :)spoke some sense " is this ok",,,you say, "they never had any kind of help" im assuming by this,,,,saying that your grandad never kept "propped up pigeons ,by medications and ant-biotics etc " which, in my opinion would lead to having a team of strong constitution pigeons , which , again, in my opinion, is far too lacking in to-days pigeons letting pigeons pair up in their own way, certainly improves their" love" for each other , and would probably race better, but for improving stock for future years, it maybe neccessary to" selectively" breed [at least some of them ] to better them,,
  13. is it possible to train in a straight line????/ ;D as the world is round, and as chris said " columbas ;D that is" ,, any point from a to b ,,would have to be in a small arc ;D, i,e the longer the distance, from a to b,,, the bigger the arc only playing devils advocate :) im sure i know what you mean, though ,
  14. nice looking y,birds o,y,, best of luck with them, they certainly look the part
  15. some medications are and associated items for proper sanitation, especially during a desease out break are listed here,,,,,,the most important thing to remember is: DONT MEDICATE UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE MEDICATING FOR!!!! cocci,,,, amprol,, [coxoid is one kind] canker...emtryl [spartrix] [ flagyl, another] there are many other deseases or infections pigeons can get,, and many treatments available,, but a stressless , clean , well ventilated loft , with excellent management can lessen the chances of picking up any deseases,, that may result in various different treatments needed
  16. you would have ;D ;D ;D ;D you know everything ;D ;D ;D [joke from me to you ;D ;D ;D] [not meant to be serious ]
  17. ;D ;D ;D ;D wood eye ;D ;D ;D i think , wee cunny , these dropping tests , if done in the proper places are ok,,well worth the £16 =£18 ,, i think maybe that the problem lies with the fancier,, droppings for testing,, [nearly said tasting there ;D ;D],,, are better taken at different times of the day , and from all different places in the loft ,,
  18. i would tend to basket ybs at a very early age , even when weaning ,, just a few at a time , leaving the basket out in the sunshine ;D? [hopefully],,,,,, with a drinker on it,, seeing them sit in fresh shavings ,, seems to calm them for later basketing training stage,, at this time , i would feed them in the loft,, basket them shortly after,, then let them hear the sound of the water splashing into the drinkers,, they soon drink then,, i feel, the more times their basketed, fed and watered, the calmer they become,,,i feel it is very important to learn young birds, most things, at a very early stage [pigeons never forget ]
  19. ;D ;D ;D the rumour could well be true ;D ;D ;D well, officialy summer time tonight/tomorrow ;D,,,,,but certainly doesnt feel anything like it, i could see snow on the hills towards peebles ,and a cold enough wind here to reach the bones [not far to go, in my case ;D],,,, never mind,," things can only get better ;D"
  20. are the pink ones for weddings ;D ;D ;D [nice couple ;D] only kidding,,very nice looking birds
  21. mine was a ready built cabin, unsuitable for pigeons,, but as i said, with a lot of work and cash , i did manage to get it ok,, it was certainly the wrong sheets it was built with and very hard to cut ;D,, if you find it satisfactory, and the birds winning ok,, best of luck ,, but im afraid i had far too much bother with mine for my liking
  22. have did it it did work,, but as i said i didnt find the work and bother worth it,, off course it maybe completely different in your circumstances ,,, at least it wont blow away ;D ;D ;D
  23. would agree with o,y,,,,,,, but maybe add horses for courses and wind as well ;D
  24. had one in the past,, no good,,,,,needed to much work done to combat condensation, and heat regulating,in my opinion would be , far better, and cheaper in the long run with a wooden loft
  25. im not a great one for bashing medications in them,, but,, as the post above says , stress, such as racing, rearing, and moulting is a big factor in raising the levels of cocci, canker etc,, as is an overcrowded loft is also,, a clean, dry ,well ventilated, un-stressfull loft, will have less bother than the opposite, but due to the certain amount of stress racing fanciers are forced to put them through , these levels are all the better for being checked either in dropping tests [as mentioned b4] or as a one off treatment b4 racing begins ,[ thats if you cant manage to get their droppings tested ] but in general would agree with the above post
