red skin peanuts for human consumtion are probably the best,, but very expensive indeed,,, far to expensive for me ;D i have purchased top quality johnstone and jeff peanuts , these are not for human consumtion,,, but i eat them and love them ;D ;D ;D , on the bag [again] it says 99.9 p.c. purity i simply put some in the microwave for a min or two, and reckon this takes any mould or nasties that might just be on them,, i eat mine raw though, theve never done me any harm ;D ;D ;D it must be remembered that peanuts are full of protein and very fattening [im 9 stone 5 ;D], i find them usefull in bringing up youngsters after 10 days old , just a few , also i found they were good to put a little weight and body on to the distance birds,,, pigeons love peanuts and beleive in a little of what they fancy does them good

Help with Widowhood.....
jimmy white replied to andrecrock's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
i dont think your plans with the widowers has gone at all, in fact with your cards played right could well be very successfull, ,, must you send your birds to this first race , even indeed the second race? if i were you i would forget about these first races and concentrate on the biger later races ,,,most of your members birds , if trained for a fortnight, then sent to your first race, at this time of the year, will never have birds on top form when it counts ,, my advice would be ,have patience , get them out each day for a fly, then train them at the end of april,, and race them, you will find when most birds/members have fell by the way side , your birds will be in top form,, best of luck -
in my opinion winning long distance birds, must contain winning long distance blood lines , but as far as training is concerned, by the time the bird is 2or 3 years old [mature birds for the distance], you should have a fair idea, what makes the bird fit, all are individuals and what would suit one, may not suit another some thrive on a lot of work, some dont , this is where , loft management covers all , and this to me, is a very important factor
-
if you take yor birds training , make sure there is someone there, to get them right in, giving a lttle reward , maybe a handfull of conditioner their better being trained to trap as yb,s,, then as old birds they should trap well, if theve plenty confidence in you,and well used to you, you will often find w/hood cocks or hens trap far faster than natural birds as they are very keen to get in to see their mates

when on w/hood would normaly show the hens b4 the go to the race, then let them back to the hens after the race but sometimes just not quite as simple as this,, as, " ask me says ", some yearling cocks can go over the top by doing this,,, all birds have different temprements , some yearlings with a quiet nature can handle this ,,others will just lose form very quickly due to being far to excited, far to quickly, and take a lot out of themselves during transit, then loose form very quickly. as two year olds its often not neccessary to even show the hens ,just upturn their bowl and open their side of the nest box, as long as their hens are there for their return, as they should know the game by then, i feel that due to the different temperaments of each individual cocks ,, they can be treated in the best way that suits them,, ,,, but be very carefull of yearlings,, its a long programme

yes we indeed sing from the same song sheet, , if you read the rules you will see that mods are ordinary members selected for their moderating skills,[but come under the same rules,as ordinary members,,,," mods work together" to make this site run as smooth as possible , we have , lately, had a very smooth running forum, well liked by most,im quite sure many members appreciate this , but in the last few days ,indeed, some shocking posts have been posted which have no place on this forum [agreed by many members] some of these posts have come from very devious people working in very devious ways , the moderators have put in vast amount of hours and work, sometimes to the point of exhaustion, to seek out these devious persons , in my opinion , quite simply ,why cause trouble,, this is a great pigeon forum, enjoyed by many, why indeed spoil it for the" many". pigeons are a most interesting , and wonderfull hobby , we see fanciers day in and day out ,helping in most charities, they can be the most caring of people ,and most, indeed are,!! in proverbs 18 v 7, from the good book it says ,, "a fool,s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul", i beleive this to be true ,,,,,and as many might find hard to beleive , i beleive firmly in the good book ,,,,the bible .
