  7. [1] in my opinion, would flock treat for 5 days with chevi-col [dimetridazole 1.0g] then one day multi-vits [2] would keep them in during this time,,, should be raring to go after this,,,good luck
  8. well certainly cant argue with that ;D ;D i would agree, ;D ;D but with any craving, theres usually a cause, im wondering what the cause is for pigeons wanting salt when feeding youngsters :-/ :-/ :-/ ;D nature must be causing this craving for some reason :-/ :-/
  9. with due respect owen, and finding all your posts exellent it sounds that in this posting you are assuming that grit and minerals have not been in front of them, in the past, :-/ in the thread , there is no mention of grit or minerals not been given to them, please dont take this the wrong way, as its certainly not meant to sound like that, , allthough, like you , i do believe grit and minerals should be in front of them, all the time, but im now wondering if skull lofts have in fact given grit and minerals in the past ???

  11. why do pigeons crave salt when feeding youngsters my thoughts on these migratory birds, they have a natural build up of reserves for their totally natural journey, i would think nature would take care of that,,, but the difference with pigeons, they dont know their being sent to fly many miles, so are naturally not prepared for this, :-/ :-/ i dont know about the humming birds, but just know they hum ;D ;D ;D,,,,,,,,,but all very interesting stuff
  12. i would say yes ,, as i said b4 they also breath to a certain extent through their bones [pigeons have hollow bones , compared to us] i think, in my opinion, there are various ways they can loose salts and minerals , therefore, i would be a beleiver ;D ;D ;D as far as i see in albears post, he is a beleiver too, but just hope he doesnt give the same amount to the pigeons , than he gives the horses ;D ;D ;D

  18. i cant see ive seen this b4 as muscle bound or cramp? i know quinine is good for cramp,, but dont know if its good for pigeons,?? but muscle bound,, i havent seen , even after a hard race,, ive seen birds so tired they can barely fly,, but still able,, my thoughts on this , it could be due to a knock ? picking up a poison,, or even something more sinister,, i would hope its not the latter. but pigeons like anything else, must get soreness , i suffer plenty ;D,, allthough on a lot of medication and injections, i find a bath is best for releif
  19. really hope you get them back,, post now and again , on this thread,, and bring it to the top again,, wish you luck

  24. allthough very interesting indeed, i have in fact just been discussing fanciers going by the book,, so to speak , as theres many different veiws on this subject , it may well be worth trying things and experimenting on things that work,,or dont work ,, when i see " pigeons dont sweat" this is true,,,, but like dogs , they can" sweat" in a different ways ,,,, we allways seem to think on pigeons, in line with humans,, this, to me is completely wrong , they see different, smell defferent , they fly, their metabolism is different ,, in fact the are just completely different , we seem to think they can only loose valuable minerals in their droppings etc, but it must be remembered that a pigeon breathes completely different than us,, we can dehydrate by sweating and by panting, as a pigeon cant sweat but it can breath [hopefully ] and it must be remembered that a pigeons bones are hollow , and in fact can breath through its bones also , so a pigeon, in my opinion can deheydrate in many ways that is so different from humans , therefore the need to replace these body mineral salts are needed for the abnormal work load we place on a mere 16 ounces bunch of feathers,, only my opinion, and my own obsevation, they do recover quicker from a hard race by giving electrolytes [of some kind, maybe your own tried and tested kind ]
  25. i think owen is probably more to the point,, but if you cant help the trees being there, and cant take anymore down, these yb,s will soon get used to things , most yb,s on their first flights can easily be made very nervious , and can be common for them to stay out,, but if getting no feeding anywhere , are usualy back , sometimes after days , when their settled a little , let them out a little peckish and scatter some red band or kibbled p nuts [takes a time to fill them], but only a handfull ,, then get them in, and feed them,, it wont be long b4 they cotton on,, [mine were frightened by a hawk attack,, thought i had lost them all , but all back in the next few days , the last one 5 days out] all settled now,, but took a bit of doing,, [nails bitten to the elbows ] good luck
