  1. yes speight hormoform is very good, but it is fairly expensive, as i said before a good diet of peas and beans, some babies milk powder in their water,[ or the other way mentioned in an earlier post] plenty grit and minerals, and you should have nice plump healthy ybs, one thing i do beleive in though, is that they must get a good start in life, otherwise their never any good
  2. because i beleive, there are far to many politicly based arguements, that are putting fanciers off, instead of pulling together, and enjoying their racing,
  3. ;D ;D ;D send me a tea bag up, itll be the only drink youve bought me ;D ;D ;D
  4. it was columbine tea ,which is a bit bitter, taste it , then youll need the mars bar yourself ;D ;D ;D columbine tea is a mixture of herbs, but does contain camomile. the sugar or honey takes the bitterness out ,and does the birds no harm,,,,where is the mars bar, ive never seen that pub ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  5. i can only suggest to help any young fancier in any way, then if some of his pals see the enjoyment their getting ,they may want to start themselves. but what NOT to do is belittle them , as i seen a young lad sending 1 bird to his first ever national, he was very shy and nervous, he didnt know that they wouldnt accept cash, and was told in no uncertain terms," you should read the bldy rules" in front of everybody, well some fancier paid his money by cheque for him, but that young lad never raced again after that. AND THE PERSON WHO SAID THAT WAS TOLD STRAIGHT lucky most fanciers are the opposite, and would do their utmost to help.
  6. when the bird is wing twitching , its telling you something

  8. I USED TO GIVE ELECTROLYTES [sAME AS REHYDRATION SALTS] AND ON THE SUNDAY GAVE TEA WITH HONEY OR SUGAR IN IT ,THEY SEEMED TO LIKE IT BETTER LIKE THAT,TOOK THE BITTERNESS OUT OF IT
  9. watchedthe programme and noted they only feed mainly on rabbits, they did not say that the would not tolerate any perigrine nesting anywhere near them[which they dont, they kill them] but off course our old freind [in first post] rspb duncan orr ewan , does not want them CAUSE THEIR NOT BRITTISH, and will kill RARE birds, thats the man who looks after the perigrines [thats the RARE birds] who does he think he is, god. these birds nest in quarries ,the same as perigrines, and if their nesting in the quarries, the perigrines, wont be there.,, the expert on the programme says they ARE originaly brittish, im sure he will prove that too ,rspb mr duncan orr hiven ewan, is playing god, judge and jury
  10. i remember a few years ago the same member was 1st and 2cnd, he called the winner rudolph ,and the second santa, i said that santa claus would have been a better name for the winner, NO, HE SAID , RUDOLPH WAS IN FRONT OF SANTA?? :) :) GOOD LUCK TO ALL WHO RACE
  11. leave it in the hands of the organisers, beleive me they know what there doing.
  12. wednesday 8 pm bbc 2 should be interesting
  13. THE HAWK CONSERVATIVE TRUST the eurasian eagle owl is quite a common bird throughout europe its most adept at navigating between trees in subdued light, its capable of taking medium sized mammals up to the size of a rabbit[ NOT A SHEEP] BEHAVIOUR IN THE WILD. in forrested areas , which are typically inhabited by a number of species of birds of prey, there is often animosity between species. here the goshawk and the eagle owl are probably the most murderous, the eagle owl is even known to tackle quite successfully ,raptors as large, and swift as the peregrine falcon .... the day time scourges ,bruno , as you say the perigrines and hawks, are killed by the eagle owl whilst roosting, it would not be able or fast enough to catch them in flight

    Please Help

i cannot understand that pigeons would frighten the neighbours horse, as we have many liberations from racecourses on a sat am, when the racehorses, have arrived, these race horses are highly strung, but seem to suffer no ill effect, we also have many liberations at various important functions, throughout the world where horses are on parade , again with no ill effects to the horse ,i,e some rememberance day functions etc etc we also have pigeon releases at the olympic games, where there are many police on horsback, again with no ill effect, so rather than determine the height of the pigeon which has to come down to the loft, would it be possible, to determine that the pigeons would not frighten the horse, and as far as the wife is concerned, shed be better seeing a doctor on her phobia on birds

would an e mail from the union help, i appreciate you cant say much, but as far as your birds landing on other peoples property, can these people proove that, as there are lots of feral birds about/? as far as air space, this has to be mentioned as well, do they have proof that its your pigeons/?really wish i could help you ,but some good points in posts above, especialy a free consultation with a lawyer
  17. exerpts from a bird forum,,,,,, 1. i strongly suspect there is a healthy population of eagle owls in the uk. i know of one such location in the n, of england where they have successfully bred in the wild for several years now,in a rural environment,,i find it a little surprising that more sightings havent been reported. 2.i read a report in the gaurdian, claiming that a pair of eagle owls living wild in n, of englandhas successfully reared 15 young since 1996, ouch ,that would be popular with pigeon fanciers, 3.since roosting perigrine falcons and other assorted raptors feature highly on the eagle owls nocturnal fast food menu, your probably right about pigeon fanciers being pleased to see their numbers increase,as far as them being a threat to racing pigeons, i shouldnt think so, since they are all safely out of harms way in their lofts during the hours of darkness, when eagle owl goes to work 4.the question of whether eagle owls were ever native is in some references stated it was. it was thought they were native to the uk until the latter part of the 19th century.
  18. theres a breeding pair of eagle owls at or around alnwick, also a few pairs north scot. the pair in yorkshire have been there a few years now, and bred over 20, there are also more breeding pairs in the u,k,they are not all reckoned to be related i,e, off the one pair, theres even debate that some have flew here, it should prove an interesting prog, on bbc 2 on wed, they are very territorial, and nest at the same terrain as the perigrine, but will kill the perigrine at dusk when it is beginning to roost,by stealth and not speed, why buy a toy one from the garden centre, when the rspb will [should] be helping them to breed, and look after them , the same as the perigrines, as they come under the same law as raptors, they say let nature take its course, well who knows it might just do that
  19. welcome to the forum madas [god job i never read it other way round] :) on this forum youll get all the info you need to know and meet many good freinds i wish you the best of luck
  20. THERE ARE A FEW EAGLE OWLS LIVING FREE IN BRITTAIN, SOME ARE BEING RELEASED IN YORKSHIRE,,,,,WATCH BBC 2 NOV. 16 8PM THE EAGLE OWL IS COMMONLY KNOWN TO TACKLE, QUITE SUCCESSFULLY, RAPTORS AS LARGE AND SWIFT AS THE PERIGRINE FALCON. THE EAGLE OWL IS A VERY LARGE POWERFULL BIRD, ONLY SLIGHTLY SMALLER THAN THE GOLDEN EAGLE, IT HAS A WING SPANOF UP TO 200CM. THE ADULTS CAN WEIGH IN EXCESS OF 4KG. IN COMPARISONTHE COMMON BARN OWL WEIGHS ABOUT 500G.IT FEEDS MAINLY ON SMALL MAMALS BUT WILL TAKE PREY UP TO THE SIZE OF FOXES AND YOUNG DEER,,,,,,IT WILL ALSO TAKE MANY OTHER BIRDS INCLUDING OTHER BIRDS OF PREY ALTHOUGH THEY WILL KILL AND EAT ANYTHING THEY CAN GET THEIR TALONS ON. I HAVE HEARD THERE HAS BEEN OCCASIONS WHEN,,,,PERIGRINES HAVE BEEN SWIPED FROM THEIR NESTS OR ROOST SPOTS BY EAGLE OWLS, AS BOTH THESE BIRDS TEND TO PREFER ROCKY CLIFFS TO NESTS,,,,,,,AN EAGLE OWL WILL MAKE A SWIFT SNACK OUT OF A PERIGRINE. QOUTE I KNOW THERE IS SOME DOUBT OVER WHETHER THEY ARE NATIVE ,,BUT WOULD SAY THEY ARE A FANTASTIC ADDITION TO OUR BIRDLIFE,,,,,ASSUMING THE IMPACT ON OTHER BIRDS OF PREY IS NOT TOO GREAT,,,,UNQOUTE " LICENCED REGISTERED KEEPERS"WAS FAZED OUT IN THE 90S. ITDID HAVE STRICT CONTROLS ON WHO COULD KEEP CERTAIN BIRDS OF PREY. NOW ANYONE WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE CAN GET HOLD OF BIRD OF PREY NO LICENCE IS REQUIRED AND EAGLE OWLS VERY OFTEN COME UP IN ADVERTS FREE TO GOOD HOME,,,,,,,PEOPLE OFTEN GET THEM ON A WHIM AND WHEN THEY FIND THEM AGGRESIVE THEY ARE OFTEN RELEASED. S,E I CANT SEE THEM HAVING MORE THAN A VERY LOCAL EFFECT ON BIRDS OF PREY YES, THE LOCAL EFFECT IS SOMETIMES THE ERADICATION OF ALL OTHER COMPETITORS SO, HOW MANY PAIRS DO YOU THINK ARE OUT THERE SOUNDS LIKE 2 OR 3 PAIRS PLUS THEIR OFFSPRING, PLUS THE ONES THEY ARE RELEASING AND POTENTIALY DOZENS OF OTHER SINGLE ESCAPEES, GIVEN THE SEEMINGLY HIGH REPRODUCTIVE RATE AND SURVIVAL OF THE YOUNG, IT WOULD APPEAR THEY HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF ESTABLISHING A VIABLE POPULATION. SNIPPETS IVE PICKED UP HERE AND THERE,,,,,,ANY OPINIONS JIMMY WHITE
