dinutah, to be prfectly blunt with you, you would be better not getting advice , from this fellow. if you pull a birds flight out [ which is not advisable] the new flight will grow, but youll find it shorter than it should be, i would tend to take advice on this forum, where you can allways ask the hows and whys etc

if you cant race the hens , its difficult to stop them pairing as the season goes on, , if the section is 4 ft wde and 6ft deep, you could try 4ft long poles, where the hens can only sit side by side, also grilled floors, or you could box them on the wednesday thursday, friday, as sometimes the racebirds are in the basket this long, it is horrible having to box up hens, i used to do this but had a 22 ft aviery, where i could change them about, give them a bath etc

hi billy mac sounds as though their good enough beans, and as far as i can find out seem to have come from a reputable place,[well stored etc] maybe just a wee note on the bean weevil,,,,,,the bean weevil attacks legumes either in storage or the field and may even completely destroy them .. in heavy infestations there maybe two dozen or more newly hatched larvae in one bean. when full grown ,the larvae form pupae in the eaten out cavity. as many as 6 generations are produced in a single season , and in storage breeding continues as long as there is available food left in the beans and a warm temprature. the larvae can be killed by fumigation or by heating the seeds to 145 deg. far. [63 deg cent] for two hours. maybe a bit of interest to you. glad you reminded me of "big jim" 6ft 4 ins and built like an ox, yet he was the gentle giant who went out his way to help any one, and allways had a joke, and i bet you had a laugh at the old video, its just a pity theres not more like "big jim" nowadays, any way all the best billy and good luck to you. jimmy

are they this years beans billy mac , whats your opinion on them,? pretty reasonable at that price really
-
bruno theres a possibility this could be the pigon fly. a flat fly ,the size of a house fly that lives beneath the feathers of the bird and causes extreme unrest due to the fact that it lives on the pigeons blood,, ie, irritates the bird and bites the bird

meant to add a p,s, in last post. you know what PROBABLY done, he followed a dung cart ,and PROBABLY thought it was a wedding ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

weigh them and let me know your findings j,w a bean with 2 or 3 weavil holes against a clean bean.

why not just do the K.I.S.S. SYTEM and just put nice clean water in their bath, warm if need be, remember we have the best water ,going [in scot] well it makes good whisky any way, youll allways find the odd lice on a pigeon, if you look hard enough, but with a good healthy pigeon and a well managed loft theyll be at a minimum, but with a sick pigeon will find a lot of lice on it, as the oil gland is not working properly, or the bird is not preening itself properly, and off course birds like this should not be in the loft p.s. the odd lice will do no harm, and will actually encourage a healthy bird to prune itself , theres more in this oil gland than what you think the worst enemy is mite,, by far.

if you get wevil holes in your beans, your getting less bean for your money, like buying polo,s the mint with the hole in the middle if you weigh a dozen weevil holed beans then weigh a doz, beans without weevil holes youll see the differance in weight,,,,,mean scotsman

snowy. allthough the pigeons i sent you were of distance breeding, i have won many prizes with the same strain ,in shorter rces,ie topped the fed at 62 miles with a son of sir colin , won gold ring 220 miles approx, with a daughter of sir colin etc my advice would be to concentrate on breeding a decent yb team for next year, and take it from there, you really cant send birds to the extreme distance till they are at least 2 y o, so in the meantime enjoy your club racing, and who knows, in a couple of years time we might see the head lines,,,, snowy and westy win national, i think with a dream and a goal with pigeons keeps you going, and you learn as you go along,,p.s. youve done great in the short time you have kept them, and with that keenness youll soon be competing with the best,,good luck to you and westy

johny 11 exellant letter from german homming union, wish we could get a press release like that, from our own unions, so that any snooping with the press could be answerd, simply by handing them [,the unions press release [, they are going to get some story by hook or by crook, so they are as well getting the true facts , as printed by the german president. you are in a good job to find out things but i would have thought that dr frank jordans info, would be very private, but seeking thir advice, would be great, i think there are a few poultry and farm workers also on this forum, who have all contributed to the posts,,im not sure if bruno is connected to poultry in any way, but has certainly dug up plenty of info, and kept us up to date, i should think that it would take a lot of time and work for this, im sure there are many opinions on all this, but at least we have this forum , for debate, i personally thank all for their, opinions, info, and posts on this subject

i would class virgo as a white pigeon, it was full of the best of kirkpatrick breeding. in the 2004 bicc barcelona syd and bill knox were first and second , both these birds related to virgo,,,,if im ever to get another champion i think ill call it DENIM,as its all in the jeans, good luck to all, jimmy

no oppologies needed ben, and no offence taken either :)

no tylan is not banned in this country

tiamutin is an anti biotic used in pigs, etc , i dont know if theve changed, the specifics of tiamutin, but it used to be called dynamutalin,,as a severe measure, of respiritory problems, will cure this in pigeons, but would have to be used very very carefully AND with the proper dosage,,,,,,the reason i say this ive seen what overdosage can do,,i think the old adage here is prevention is better than cure, tylan is used for much the same reason, also for pigs, etc, this is also a strong antibiotic,, in my opinion better avoided, unless ABSOLUTELY neccessary these products can only be got on prescription from vet please dont think im getting on at you silverwings and silverdale, as antibiotics are a great thing in there place, and have saved many lives, but used a lot will lower your birds immune system, and have the opposite affect. maybe its worth looking in to.

i like the younger bit ;D ;D ;D that got me back for the paw broon bit ;D ;D ;D i deserved that bruno ;D ;D ;D, but on to the coos lick , really its just rock salt, as i said before i would leave one out in the garden , if they picked at it so be it , if they left it so be it , , they did seem to pick a lot at it whilst feeding young, that used to worry me a bit as though they were lacking in something, yet they had grit, minerals, pickstones etc in front of them .all the time. and like doostalker said in an ealier post, i would take it away for a while, but then they picked at the ground where i had taken it away, all most to the extent of picking a hole in the ground, this was only when they were feeding young, and really to be honest never found out why. any body had this?
-
i wouldnt take beans with weevil holes in them, you could well be right pigeon man, the weevil might select the best beans, but would eat part of the goodness in the bean, and the hole thats left is open to mould and even other insects, i would preffer a fresh, clean skinned , fat bean. unlike me, a has bean ;D ;D ;D

ben , if you look at the original post it is about white pigeons. i was merely conversating, along the lines of the post, WHITE PIGEONS, nothing to do with nat winners, nothing to do with fountainhall stud, and nothing to do with selling pigeons i was merely pointing out that champion virgo was near white, that was the name given to the bird, by the owner, there are other posts, for what you are on about. i regret putting on that post, following the tone of yours, my, sir colin ,was a champion ,but he wasnt a knight?? one other thing ben , i would never , on purpose, put any novices on the wrong footing, completely the opposite. i realise your point about about certain money makers ,and if you look through my posts you will see the advice i have given novices, about that, i think maybe ,ben we have both taken the wrong context of each others posts. nothing that cant be put right, wish you well ben, jimmy

any pigeon that wins a national is a champion, no exuses
-
was champion virgo not a white one am i right in saying that was a kirkpatrick, then there used to be the white plentycx[ spelt wrong] then there was the humberside stud used to have hundreds of whites,,,tonies tornados,,not sure if they were tornados though, i really dont think colour makes much differance, its just that there are less of them racing, so, every one to their fancy.

i would certainly agree with beans for the distance, but would also feed a mix nearer the time, of the race and even a handfull of mix whilst feeding beans, the reason for this is they could be a long time in the basket, longer still if its holdovers, the convoy of birds are usualy fed a mix, so they will be used to eating this , they could be anything from 4 to 8 days in the basket, and really have to eat all they can eat, during this time.,, and i think not to be confused at sending fat birds and putting the fats, into them,,,pigeons will never get fat on beans, but they will have body , ,,,a good idea with ben there, rear up latebreds on the beans you get, if the latebreds are not perfect the beans are not.

yes your right it used to be the nickname of the hairstyle ive got every one, giving their age away ;D ;D ;D but in scotland its a slang name for horses salt block. by the way i was too young for a coos lick hairstyle, but i tell fibs too, ;D ;D ;D

your probably right bruno the budgie men used to also spray with glycerine and rose water. to also put a shine on them but again these birds were for showing, but the pigeons have to race in all weathers and need their good jaikit on, or if you are in england, need their natural macs on.
