    sand

have used the gritty sand from certain beaches, sprayed with jeyes fluid, dried then mixed with harkers loft treatment, using shavings at the moment ,again sprayed and loft treatment added, when i used to race them , they were scraped and sprayed twice per day, every day [ only sprayed if dry]
  3. panorama, tonight [sunday] questions and answers bird flu. 10,15
  4. stayed at kelso, on farm a few years ago, goshawk was killing every day, impossible to keep pigeons, i think a big lord somebody, shot two, as they were eating the young pheasants, but maybe lords can do this, [very influencial people]
  5. pecked hen ,never mentioned dampness, in her post, her grit is bone dry, must have a better circulation of air than the other lofts :) :) :) so there ;D ;D ;D good on you pecked hen :) ill tellem :)
  6. ITS JUST A THOUGHT SNOWY, BUT MAYBE YOUR FIRST YEAR,CONCENTRATE ON BREEDING A TEAM OF YBS,AND AS YOU HAVE SOME PRISONERS,MAYBE BUILD AN AVIARY AT THE SIDE OF THE BREEDING SECTION OF YOUR LOFT, AND JUST KEEP THEM ALL AS PRISONERS UNTILL YOU BREED A TEAM OF YBS. YOU COULD RACE ALL YOUR YBS TO THE OTHER SECTION.MIND YOU YOU COULD ALLWAYS PUT THE BIRDS THAT ARE HOMMING OUT NOW AND AGAIN BY HAND, JUST TO GIVE THEM A STRETCH AND BATH ETC JUST FITTER ABOUT WITH A FEW SUGESTIONS, THEN DO IT THE WAY YOU THINK SUITS YOU BEST, IF YOU LET ME KNOW HOW MANY BREEDING PAIRS YOU HAVE AND HOW MANY YBS YOU WANT, I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU, YOU COULD MATE UP IN JANUARY, THE OLD BIRDS SHOULD BREED OK BUT THE YOUNGER ONES WILL BREED WHEN THEY ARE READY THEMSELVES, MAYBE YOU WOULD BE BETTER STARTING OFF,, RACING JUST YBS THIS YEAR AND ANY LATEBREDS YOU HAVE, CAN BE TRAINED ALONG WITH THESE, TO FORM A TEAM NEXT YEAR OBS AND YBS
  7. IM AFRAID MS PIGEON , THATS WHAT WAS EXACTLY ON MY MIND. I HAD A FREIND DIE WITH ASBESTOSIS, 15 YEARS AFTER HE WORKED WITH IT, MIND YOU THATS NOT TO SAY D,E WOULD DO THE SAME THING, BUT I THINK I WOULD PREFER TO FIND OUT
  8. IF YOU DONT LIKE WHATS ON THE T.V, YOU CAN TURN IT OVER, SAME GOES FOR THIS THREAD, BUT YOU CAN BET YOUR BOTTOM BOOTS THAT THE RSPB WILL NOT TURN IT OVER, I HOPE NOT ANYWAY
  9. IF YOU DONT LIKE WHATS ON THE T,V, YOU CAN TURN IT OVER, SAME GOES FOR THIS THREAD, AGREE WITH DOOSTALKER
  10. PECKED HEN, AT LEAST THAT PROOVES YOUR LOFT IS NOT DAMP, IF THE GRIT IS DRY, BUT AS THE OTHER POSTS SUGGEST ONLY A LITTLE IS NEEDED AT THIS TIME OF YEAR, , WHEN THEIR FEEDING BABIES, THEY WILL EAT MUCH MORE GRIT THEN, PLUS MINERALS PICKSTONES ETC, REALLY THEY KNOW WHAT THEY WANT AND WHEN THEY WANT IT THEM SELVES, BUT THERES NO POINT IN PUTTING TOO MUCH IN ,JUST TO GET SOILED AND WASTED,,,,JUST NOTICED IM STILL ON CAPITALS, AH WELL, YOU MUST BE CAPITAL, CANT FIND SMILIES
  11. JUST SEEN THE PHOTO,NOT FRIGHTENED TO ADMIT IVE A TEAR IN MY EYE GOD BLESS YOU RACHEL XXX JIMMY AND THANKS FOR YOUR HARD WORK MADDY, AND ALL WHO HELPED
  12. GREAT ENTERTAINMENT, GREAT JOB DONE BY WEBMASTER, BUT LETS NOT FORGET SNOWY, HE WAS THE ONE WHO FIRST THOUGHT OF IT
  13. maybe if you seperated them ,singly in boxes for a time," as absence makes the heart grow fonder" then do as hyacinth says, i see no reason for them not to breed that way
  14. looking back at spelbins post, even if ordinary water is left too long it produces that residue, worse after giving them vitamins, i think hes doing the right thing as as this residue is [to my mind] bacteria, the main source of infection in pigeons is through the water, so it does pay to keep it clean
  15. we have to vaccinate them , but have to agree with silverwings earlier on, its very easy to get a "bad" batch, and theres no way we have of knowing that, we just pay our money and take our chance, or rather they take our money , and we take the chance. and as wings said, i dont think they need , all this vaccination ,every year, i think after being vaccinated as ybs,, each year , half the dose would do. but were forced to do it so theres no argument. money talks,,,,,,it says goodbye ;D ;D ;D
  16. good idea silver wings , worth a try anyway, lets know how you get on :)
  17. i hope the rspb look at these photos, and this is just the tip of the iceberg, the song birds are being gradually wiped out as well,
  18. as you say bruno some gardens are turned in to "song bird killing grounds" thats exactly whats happened to my brothers garden umpteen scatters of feathers around but not many birds now , off course he cant even feed them now, as it would attract the hawk again, much to his dismay.
