  1. all lovely birds, very difficult to vote
  2. yes sbelbin, looks a cracker of a cock, lets hope they make a decent pair, the breeding is all there, so fingers crossed
  3. wow, some photos speight, do you think that pigeon got away? if it did, the batch it was driven out of, would have dived for cover , hitting anything in there way, and few would have survived unscathed
  4. first pigeon was red cheq surp 51 ca 4406 it was a stray, but my pride and joy so if the owner sees this send amtrack ;D ;D ;D [not a van , a horse and cart ;D ;D ;D]
  5. no need to apologise westy, your young and quite right to ask questions, but would agree with hyacyths post earlier, you carry on the way you are, the more questions you ask the more you learn, so stick in there :)
  6. ill go in and sing them a carol,,,oh come all ye faithfull :)
  7. agree with spelbin, i had to wait in 3 days to eventualy get the bird picked up, then as he said it went to the wrong depot and wrong address, not bad for £22? they wouldnt take cash or credit card, it took us 4 days to get it all sorted out, i found it a bit ridiculous, that they paid a man to call, to tell me they had no box, no wonder its £22
  8. think the webmaster has improved the post by wording it differantly, fair doos. ;D ;D ;D and your bang on fifestay ;D ;D ;D
  9. thats what i mean wings, its completely up to the owner of the bird, hes the only one that makes the decision, nobody else, and i beleive that to be personal between the owner and the pigeon
  10. one of the many things that amazes me with pigeons [ and all wild life] is" instinct" it fascinates me the way a young pigeon , 3 weeks old,[ 3 weeks older than an egg] can determine danger, ive often put ybs on the board outside, to let them have a bit fresh air , a little sun, and to let them see their surroundings, while ive cleaned their boxes out. they will not worry about the normal songbirds , but by jove, when theres a hawk in the vicinity, they know it, you see them all cocking their head to the side and look up,and are very wary,, it just makes you wonder what instinct" is. one thing for sure is that its trully amazing :)
  11. sorry speight, forgot about the poll :)
  12. i hope they have a great time and look forward to see the pics
  13. i personally would not wish, any syndicate formed out of pigeon basics to enter any one loft race [not that im against one loft races] but this is a forum and not a club, whenever money is involved , animosity creeps in. ive nothing against private messages to form syndicates, but to have nothing to do with pigeon basics. we can have our fun free, look at the show, no entry fee, pretty cheap for all that fun :)
  14. i had a pigeon. never won a prize till 6 years old where it was 15th open blue riband, scottish national rennes, so who are we to say their no good. i personally think this post should be removed as this is personal between you and your pigeons and everyone is differant
  15. congrats ,to westbury lofts also to clockman and alan wilkins, and just as important all who entered, i think webmaster can definately say this has been a success [and good fun] thank you all
  16. two posts on latebreds
  17. was given a latebred, unraced as yb, trained and 3 races as yearling, as 2and 3 year old won in club fed and national[ won over £2000] very well bred pigeon ,given to me free, was offered £200, for it , but gave it back to gordon, free, the chap who gave me it.
  18. well done speight, brilliant photos, it really is a spectacular sight seeing a liberation like this :)
  19. :)happy birthday ray,, enjoy your book ,, hope youve had a great day,, :)
  20. i wait till the last flight is fully grown, then,[ as my birds cant get out,] i feed them for about 4 weeks on the best malted barley, they only get enough to eat, as to when they start picking,i keep a close look, and handle the hens to make sure they will not be fat in any way, fortnight b4 pairing ,i feed mixture, mixed with wheat germ oil, then feed accordingly after that p.s i often mix a little wheat germ in the barley and add brewers yeast, they get garlic in the water, everyday.remember, these birds have previously been fed on a high protein diet ,to ensure a good moult and at this stage are a wee bit on the fat side vits once a week.. had their dropings tested , all ok.
  21. i would say that woman fanciers, are in the main, far better than men fanciers, they have far more patience, and far more common sense, and have a way with pigeons. now please, dont all be sending me valentine cards ,on valentine day, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  22. agree with most of your post ben, but with due respect, i dont think you can even begin to compare the tiplers, flying 16 hours to a race bird flying 16 hours, there is just no comparison, i have never seen or heard of a pigeon , fed on barley alone, win any 5 to 600 mile races in to scotland, for this distance, the bird has to call on reserves, and most certainly, barley, will not give the pigeon these reserves, as i say ben, this is with due respect and only my opinion.
  23. now that the big moult is about finished, what are the forums views , as how the birds should be treated now, i.e exercise, feeding pairing, etc etc,
  24. first and foremost i would say , whatever" brand" you use, make sure its clean and well stored, no good buying any so called best brands if their stored in damp, dirty or stuffy conditions, which some of them are.
