while i understand brunos thinking, personally i would think the hawks will still survive and still multiply, there are thousands of feral pigeons to keep them going till the racing started again, its just that perigrines preffer the chase of a racing batch
-
im sorry bruno, i have to agree with hyacinth, the ignorance of the public are working against us now,,,,,,will it get worse ,, watch panorama on sunday evening, i only hope it can enlighten the public,, i hope,so im glad you put that one right speedbird, but it just goes to show what joe public is like, and hes not the only one that have had remarks like that,...ALLREADY.

i just used it when rearing young, a couple of tablespoons everyday in the drinker, till the ybs are weaned
-
its full of protein needed for growing, and good for the digestive system, same as carnation milk makes lovely healthy droppings, and i feel it gives them a good start in life, only my opinion westy, even a bird comming home very tired, recovers well with some milk added to their water
-
funny you should say hjaltland, that i put a couple of tablespoons of baby milk powder, reared up beautifull ybs.

best of luck to all and great work done by webmaster -
I WOULD SAY BRUNO THAT RE INFESTATION CAN OCCUR IN DAYS, ESSPECIALLY WITH YBS IN THE NEST I WOULDNT SAY THEY WERE NIGHT FEEDERS, THE JUST SURVIVE IN DARK PLACES,IE UNDER THE YBS WING, UNDER NEST BOWLS ETC I THINK THE ANNUAL SPRAY IS NOT ENOUGH
-
I WOULD PUT THEM ON DARKNESS RIGHT AWAY , IF I WERE YOU SP.
-
going back to one of my earlier posts, about the press being told the truth, i stick to that THEN, but now we have dissaray with shows going on , [under certain conditions]shows not going on, sales going on ,,,sales not going on, were now giving the press amunition for blaming pigeons, and they will.AND YET PIGEONS ARE THE LEAST LIKLIEST HOSTS OF THIS VIRUS,, THE PUBLIC SHOULD GET TO KNOW THAT,,,,,,FROM SOMEWHERE???

i notice rose has a photo in the logans post, of a pigeon not unlike the one i was on about, the only differance was that the one i had wasnt pied. intresting posts above

surely if there were better breeds, than others, it would show up in all the futirity races around the world, as there are many breeds racing to the same loft, and as far as i can see ,theres no one particular breed that out shines any of the rest, maybe im wrong,,,,i would preffer a pigeon that has winning lines flying in the terrain, it has to fly in. ie up in scotland,i would rather have birds bred off s,n.f,c winners, than a bird from holland flying the same distance, and as bruno says the old kirkpatricks are as good as any, providing their bred direct off winning distance lines ,and as far as sprint races, i would not be afraid to cross these sprint breeds to find out what suited me. i remember asking famous fancier, what the best breed is,,,his answer was, for selling ,,a pure breed,,for racing a cross, and really if you go far enough back , their all crosses
-
one way to find out if you have dermanyssurs gallinea[,red mite] in your loft ,is *expletive removed* your finger and squeeze a blob of blood on to a perch or nest box, in the dark , go back later with torch, and if theres mite youll see them in it.

i remember me and my dad walking to the pigeon club, with a carboard egg box, [about an 8 mile walk there and back] some of the older fanciers, saying , heres the carboard box man, he used to reply, its not the box that counts, its whats inside the box been in my bed, couldnt sleep, all these thoughts going through my mind, so just got up and posted them

these words are printed under a photo of the famous blind fancier jed jackson and myself in 1985 NOTHING IN THIS LIFE IS MORE UNPREDICTABLE THAN LIFE ITSELF,AND THERES ONLY ONE WAY TO LIVE IT,AND THAT IS BY ONE DAY AT A TIME. AFTER 40 YEARS OF BLINDNESS,THERE ARE, STRANGE AS IT MAY SOUND,BLESSINGS TO BE COUNTED, THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I FEEL DESPERATALY SORRY FOR MYSELF,BUT ON THESE RARE OCCASIONS, I REMIND MYSELF OF MY GREAT FORTUNE. I FILL MY LUNGS WITH WINE LIKE AIR OF THE EARLY MORNINGS, AND I BLESS MY GOOD FORTUNE OF ANOTHER DAY. fantastic words from a most remarkable man ,and a remarkable pigeon, nat winner "genista" the doc.
-
my old dad used to say to me IF YOU THINK YOU ARE BEATEN ,YOU ARE. IF YOU THINK YOU DARE NOT YOU DONT. IF YOUD LIKE TO WIN, AND THINK YOU CANT, ITS PRETTY WELL SURE YOU WONT. LIFES BATTLES,NEVER GO TO,THE STRONGER OR LOUDEST MAN, BUT SOONER OR LATER, THE MAN WHO WINS, IS THE MAN WHO THINKS HE CAN. the doc.
-
personally i would prefer pigeons bred from winners i.e if i wanted sprint birds i would want pigeons bred from generations of sprint winners, and the same goes for distance birds, no matter what the so called" breed "is. i think we can be fooled a bit by adverts and breeds and sales,,,,,,,,i often wonder what breed the bucshearts are??/

i agree with fifer, that red mite will produce these symtoms in pigeons, but also beleive that ordinary lice will not in a healthy pigeon....to that extent anyway as for the pigeon fly i e mailed a mr brittain of an insectiside firm, and his answer was, qoute....i beleive the pigeon fly has been prevelant in the u,k, you may find www.pigeons.biz of interest unqoute,,,well i looked at this site ,forgot about pigeon fly lice and mite etc, and found it very interesting, especially the red that was born blind and hand reared, and is now able to fend for itself and looks well in the photo, and many other topics, got a bit carried away with myself [as usual] :) :)
