    help wanted

great info,, all in a few mins well done
  6. i think through the years there have been many greats ,all over the u,k at these distances,, jim sanderson, not too far from me, won the snfc nantes race twice at 600 miles,, if my memory serves me right he was also second at one time [scoring in many 5-600 mile races,, another was cormack of wynchburgh,,, although [as far as i remember , never actualy winning a nat , i could be wrong,, but to be never out the result in almost 30 years, in not the best of locations takes some beating,,, off course i will mention" sir colin" ist bird into scot flying over 600 miles being 2cnd national,, also being 25th open nantes and scoring twice also at 505 miles in the sartilly nat, before breaking his wing in his prime,,, although this was a great pigeon , i wouldnt even try and put myself in the same leaugue [spelt wrong ;D] of the likes of these guys, but marvelous how all these guys do it,, all credit to all of them

  15. i know innes bros of gilmerton won the 1967 snfc avaranches race with" kingston tree top" i think this pigeon was a cattryse going back to les numan,, if my memory serves me right, w kinnear and son had birds related to kingston tree top, which i would imagine would be in some of the breeding of his national winners and prizewinners in recent years
  16. hope that was the ,,,master you said ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

  18. yes, would agree, he would be far better separated from his hen, untill the warmer weather, meanwhile a mixing of wheatgerm in his grub would do no harm,, ive heard selenuim and zinc will help, ,,,,,,,,,but it didnt help me ;D

    yearlings

some very interesting veiw points,, but we often talk of miles, rather than "hours on the wing". a yearling can be entered into a hard n,w wind race, say 360 miles , even win it , but flying the hours [especially into scotland] up to say 12 hours on the wing,, we can have birds doing 10 hours from 500 miles , even less,, ,, so my thoughts would be more based on hours on the wing, rather than distance, with yearlings,

    yearlings

sometimes very difficult to do whats best with yearlings,, they can score well even up to and over 500 miles,, but ,, what of their future,??, i had scored with three yearlings [one albears ;D ;D ;D] [need commision now ;D],, from 490 miles approx in the same nat, these on natural,,i have have scored with w/hood cocks as yearlings over 500 miles ,, but really i believe that if destined for the distance whether it be w/hood or natural,,they must not be" hammered" as yearlings [difficult in our climate in scotland], but nursed along to become fresh mature two year olds,, then if these have it in them,, will score up to a ripe old age,, [ i had one still score at 9 y o ;D , 9th time scoring over 500 miles ]
  21. yes, i would agree with this post,, but at the same time, getting any system right,, they will win,, but theres horses for courses , some birds fly better natural, others w/hood,, but in learning the natural system , you will learn more and more about pigeons, i,e behaviours, tempraments, breedings etc and any other systems can be advanced from there, if need be
  22. got to agree on that one,, great informative thread
  23. cracking looking pigeons, in cracking order,, great pics

    yearlings

im quite sure yearlings will do well , at the longer races, but in my opinion, most are ruined by persistent early training in march ,,in cold east winds , i have found yearlings to excel if started in the month of may,,, [in our usual heat wave ;D]
