not sure but would be very interested to find out ,, as far as i remember ,in the book , "creation of a strain", our racing pigeon as they are today,, were originally bred from 4 different strains from belgium back in the late 1800,s , the "leiege" pigeon , the "antwerp" pigeon and another two, ;D [cant remember off hand ;D],, these were off course selectively bred , again back to the rock dove , so a very interesting question,,

seeing no one is answering andy ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D [feeling sheepish ;D],,,, i would say that in my opinion, young hens usually race better than young cocks in yb racing in general , in my opinion , some of these large young cock birds take longer to develope,, but only my thoughts
-
great pics, belmont ;D these certainly look like the real rock doves ;D, which , amazingly , through selective breeding , have produced many of our breeds of pigeons, especially the racers,, quite amazing to see the length of their flights and size of their wingspan

i dont think there is a specific dose, as such,, if you feel this will be beneficial to them, i should imagine, a couple of teaspoons mixed in a cup of warm water, then poured into the drinker, would certainly do them no harm,,,, but with too much in the water, they simply wont drink it
-
just seen that you got it back ;D well done anto ;D
-
i think weve all did this at one time or other, i know i have, ,, can only hope the bird returns tomorrow anto,,,with him hanging around, i should imagine you would have a good chance of this,, i sincerely hope so anyway,, best of luck,

if this is what is meant,,, i,e sun /moon in the sky visable at the same time, during the day, i have to say ive always found on these occasions a strange race can occur,, why, i honestly dont know, my only guess could be, as the homing pigeons seem to rely a lot, on the sun, for direction,, with both sun and moon visable,, could this possibly confuse them?
-
in my opinion,,,, maybe a little late now, but would still do them no harm ,, buttermilk, rest, moulting seeds [linseed] and baths will induce the moult, with these darkness yb,s,,,and insure a good moult

as one of our longer, most genuine members, who has helped many with his help advice, throughout many years, i for one am saddened by his post, i have to agree with" shadow" in this post,, to much needless trouble caused by certain members, i cannot for the love of me understand why this should be,, selfishness ? sheer sordid delight in "getting one over one"? or complete ignorance? shadow has posted hundreds of helpful, sensible, postings , remaining calm and careful in his" to the point" posts, i for one will most certainly miss his, often very valuable input,, such a shame to lose members of this calibre,, i can only say, please dis-regard these so-called trouble makers, stay with the forum,, and hopefully we shall see you posting again on a forum which will revert to, as it was just a few years ago,, please accept my kindest regards, my best wishes, and hopefully we will see you posting again in the near future,jw

i think your very right , and would certainly wholeheartedly agree with you ,,, but maybe not to confuse any beginners ,,,,,, these two posters are training for valid reasons,, one has a white dove release for a funeral,[she also does weddings birthdays etc ;D free ad [get my books now ;D] , the other an anual xmas race, which has become very big,,,and only a few are selected for this race, and this race alone,, prize money in the thousands,

wooff bros new ollerton or darlington,,, les, charlie, russel,,, havent seen much better results that span over such a long time, still winning yet,, les won the louella car,, charlie won the nrcc ,, but litteraly hundreds of top class results,,, i think jimmy bamling has some of these wildemeersch [on this forum] -
as light controls the moult,,,, i,e the darkness yb,s are led to beleive it is winter [shorter daylight hours], therefore have a full body moult but retain their nest flights,,they are usualy put on normal daylight hours on the longest day, these birds have a "second"body moult, then moult these nest flights,, usually they will moult out these flights with proper feeding, baths and rest,, but if kept on darkness any longer than this" longest" day, will have difficulty in moulting all these 10 flights , light would help these birds,,, as i have said b4 i have given buttermilk in their water, about a tablespoon each day, many havent found this usefull, but i have to say i found this benificial myself,,,, i have found in the past, that any bird retaining its last flight, can, the following year, moult out this flight at the same time as moulting their second flight, in this second year,, this i found out to my great dis-advantage in one special bird which came home with 8 flights , well behind the rest, in a fairly big race
-
nowt as strange as pigeons one year 9" rubbish" yearling cocks, in a 8 by 6 loft,, out every day all through the winter,,flew like mad,, ,, out first thing each morning, on daylight my" posh" ;D birds off course all big pedigrees , 38,, all in large loft ,,kept in, all winter, all the comforts of a well ventilated clean loft,,,, first bird every week right up to 365 miles one of these 9,cocks :-/ :-/ :-/ finished up with 7, each one scored well, in fed and club,, very well in fed
-
usually wet droppings mean something is amiss,,, but i remember a van loon cock i bred from a pigeon called "dilligent", this bird had me worried no end,,[loose droppings, often varying] all birds in the loft were racing well [inc this one], i had tried everything,, i spoke with armand shceers about this [not his brother ,,gairden ; ;D D ;D]... armand had said there are occsions, when pigeons like humans, can have an irritable bowel syndrome?? whether this was right or wrong the pigeon won over £3,000,,,,yet these droppings still troubled me,, his offspring were all ok, and did well,

have topped the fed b4 with yb bred off brother /sister mating,,[accidentaly paired] both parents topped the fed,, i had one, a friend had the other,, [both from the same resource],, it wasnt until the yb topped the fed, we looked at the peds, they were in fact brother and sister, allthough i believe inbreeding can be very usefull, there are times [in my opinion] when a cross is needed,,,,,,hybrid vigour ,
