i knew a great fancier and his wife, this couple sadly deceased now, but could fairly win at 500 mile plus,, the mrs, weighed each pigeon b4 and after the 500 mile plus race if the bird scored , it would be sent again the same weight , this was mr and mrs white [no relation but very good freinds of my late father and myself] of " the trellis" and " the sprat " etc. etc. fame.

yes i agree , the longer theve been in , the harder it becomes, its actually ten times worse if theve never ever been out b4 , you would probably loose most of them,, but if theve been homed and flying to the previous owner , should make things slightly easier,,,,,,,,,best thing a make shift aviary, where they can see out, let them out , hungry and when sitting , hopefully they should be ok,,,,good luck

great pics it never ceases to amaze me, the growth rate of a baby pigeon 8) one minute, a hatched egg ,, 3 weeks later , a formed pigeon eating for itself ,, and a couple of weeks later flying like mad,,marvelous

Clipping pigeons wings, advice wanted
jimmy white replied to DOVEScot's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
i think if you clip their wings it really is better with the two, but remember the birds wont grow these flights untill they moult , so could be unable to fly for a long time [i,e cats , hawks im sure they can tell :-/], i personally wouldnt advise it ,, if its to get them homing , i think its far better to settle the birds with an aviary , where they can see out , then try them whilst sitting on eggs. -
looking at the f,cast town by town enroute on sat morn ,,,,i think early morn [,allthough sunny for lib ] there was quite a bit of rain from hawick inwards ,, earlier libs seemed to fair somewhat better than the later ones where the rain was worse and spadoric [if thats spelt right ]

i have voted for infighting , this has splintered what little pigeon fanciers there are now into smaller groups ,smaller clubs feds etc , compared to years ago ,ive seen many fanciers just pack in because of this , as far as ets , this comes under above,,,,,,,, cats , weve in fact advanced , with cat repelent electric boxes ,,,,,,,,,,hawks just making a bad situation worse, bird flu , really its allways" if " same as defra [who knows may never happen] bad birds, high prices , weve allways had that ah well,,, look on the good side itll soon be summer ;D ;D ;D

thanks all after finding the owner , and a few phone calls ,, very, very nice lady and gent had this ring number in their records as "dead in the nest" it was obvious to me they were very gennuine and caring and would send for the bird , allthough , not knowing what it was as the bird was" to far down" to send at the mo, we agreed to leave it at the mo, but between the three of us could only asume that someone got the ring and never transfered it , so if its anyones stock bird escaped [no wing stamp,, but blue marker ring on, please get in touch and while ive just been printing this ;D ;D ;D a bird has come in to my kitchen [i know what it is ;D] knocked over a tin of grub, now all over the floor ;D ;D ;D [the grub , not the pigeon ;D]
