  1. same sort of weather in the lothians since yesterday afternoon ,,thunder lightning yesterday afternoon , raining heavily , visability very poor this morning ,,chilly east wind
  2. maybe just one point roland" not all birds "that have made a mistake , are not all duds
  3. probably true ,,,in a way chriss ,, but see rolands post as to his reasons , but its certainly true what you say,,, a bird came in this morning ,,,,,,,,,,,half an hour later im speaking to the owner of the ring,, thanks to red cheq hen really not difficult :)
  4. just shows you how quick via" pigeon basics" [and off course red cheq hen ] matter being sorted now thanks red ch. hen for your promp message
  5. thanks red ch,hen ,, name and addy in a few mins ,,,great stuff , ill phone now [certainly a good bit from its loft??]
  6. so true roland ,,certainly makes you think ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,bet if you made it a £5 entry for yb,s ;D ;D ;D [it would never happen ;D] but the birds would improve and there wouldnt be so many strays , and fanciers would keep less , birds would be far more healthy , work on the pigeons would be a lot less etc etc etc ,,,,some fanciers keep far to many birds for the space they have ,,,and the time they have ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it only takes one bird to win a race ;D
  7. looking at the lost and found posts , many of these lost birds have wing stamps , address rings etc ,why do many fanciers not report lost birds now, it will soon be time for the" annual slaughter of the innocents " [the young birds] im quite sure these birds could be reported [even through pigeon basics, and back in their loft in no time ,] i certainly wouldnt blame any stray pigeon turning up, here , its been chucking it down, allmost since yesterday afternoon , with thunder and lightning
  8. just in , very wet and hungry, gb 07 t 39488 plastic green marker ring no 14 on it plus ets ring
  9. debbie i dont think dimetridazole [emtryl] is in fact an antibiotic , i think your safe enough just using it , i have done this without taking the grit away , with no adverse reactions ,,,safe enough i think
  10. in my opinion training early in the season just ruins the pigeons for the rest of the year [in fact , in scotland ,anyway , i think the racing is far too early ] when the good weather comes :-/ :-/ :-/, they will train easier and be able to" jump" 100 miles quite easy , if theve been flying well round the loft
  11. very true vic ;D ;D ;D
  12. congrats slugmonkey,good flying ,,,, i did 2221 in a 500 mile race ;D ;D timed in at 10 ,21pm ;D ;D ;D
  13. best of luck vincent it only takes one to win
  14. "hence the post",,,some members dont fly at all ,,,some members just like flying yb,s , some like sprint birds ,some race cocks some race hens , some race both i knew of one member who flew just one race per year the chrismas race , usually collected 3 to 4 thousand pounds out of this one race, but there are many who would like to try the distance and these postings proove that , if you want to try the distance ,5 to 600 miles you need mature birds 2 years old or older , therefore its worth watching your yb,s and yearlings ,,,,saving them , not knocking the stuffing out of them
  15. absolutely stunning pics , glass feather , this puts us all in the picture ;D pardon the pun c,mon lennut go easy on a novice, im sure there was many more thinking like this i knew a fancier who used an old hand held school bell to get them in,,,,, all the kids were rushing to school at 8 am instead of 9 am ;D :)
  16. big boy [white one] ill millit ;D it over ,first ;D
  17. THE HAWK THAT KILLED THE FIRST PIGEON , IS DEF NOT THE ONE THAT KILLED THE OTHER TWO?? I COULD TELL BY THE COLOUR :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
  18. looking at pigeon racing as a whole nawadays , i have noticed that, when years ago, you either had them all , or most in ,say half an hour with birds dropping regular , i see a trend of racing now, no matter what route or what organization , most races the winners do their expected time , theres a flurry of a few birds ,, then gaps then another flurry of drops then bigger gaps etc , very seldom get many birds the next day, i just wonder whats so different from years ago ??
  19. im just a few miles from arniston, ian, looking out now, the sun is doing its best to break through,,, seems to be improving slowly but surely
  20. still misty in edinburgh , but very slowly trying to brighten ,,no wind
  21. my mother 85 years old , been through the mill with ops etc ,,,,,,,,,,BLIND, but this never stops her from battling on , going to the town, shops, lunch clubs, church, etc, had her purse stolen from her shopping bag , , the person escaped ,,,,,,,,,,,,but would he, if caught, get as much as a fine , as , the same person killing some perigrines ,,,,,,the short answer is NO, ,,,,, IF THE SAME MONEY WAS SPENT ON GAURDING OUR ELDERLY ????THAN SPENT ON GIVING THESE HAWKS 24 HOUR POLICE PROTECTION , I ABSOLUTELY CRAZY :o :o
  22. no i didnt take that one, :)[ i think it was david baillie , hell be questioned now by the rspb ;D] but i took the others , 3 pigeons in 3 weeks , as bart said , something can be done about eagle owls [problem is its against the law to release them :-/ ] there are some arguements as to whether the eagle owl is native to britain,,,off course the rspb say no,, but the ornithologists say yes ,,,,,,who wins ... the rspb ,,why ,,money ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but if some did escape accidently?,,,,breed in the wild,? these young birds MUST? COME UNDER THE SAME LAW AS THE LAW AS THE OTHER PREDITORS :-/ but ,as this has happened , 15 yb,s born in uk dissapeared ???
  23. i feel for you mate , but i hope you keep racing, i agree with you, its not the ets thats ruining the sport of racing pigeons, but,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the fanciers themselves ,,,lucky their a minority, but as you say some should have a good look in the mirror, and be completely honest with them selves, the ironic thing is the good ones are the best in the world
  24. report by rspb,,,,,,,"the numbers of persecution incidents reported over the last ten years remains unacceptly high" then in the same report ,,micheal rumbles says "allthough its encouraging to see MORE birds of prey in scotland" then we have micheal russel and p,a,w, stating," the persecution of these birds , is a crime the scottish public will no longer tollerate" the rspb are behind this report ,, and out of this report they give us no proof of factual remarks , made by the scottish public [and they will know it
  25. the rspb,,,,,,tell lies about these predetors ,twisted truths to convince the public they are doing a great job , which they are NOT I JUST CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW THEY GET AWAY WITH , MAKING UP STATEMENTS , THAT THEY CANT BACK UP :
