  3. rspb,,,,,,,,"persecution of these birds is a crime the scottish public will no longer tollerate" i dont know where the rspb get there info from ,,,,,,as certainly i know most people in my area , are downright fed up with these predetors, theve wittnessed in the last few weeks .doves been killed , young song birds being killed, pigeons killed , this morning an old lady came to my house to see if i could save a young blackbird being eaten alive[in front of its mother] by a hawk ,,off course this was too late , i know for a fact that she,, and her neighbours ,would not agree with this rspb statement :( and neither would i
  4. i have an african grey parrot" max" [over 50 years old ] been flying out for years now, but he doesnt go far,,, [ just to the post office for his old age pension ; ;D D]
  5. i think they will just blend in and be flying with the other yb,s in no time i agree with not starving young ones , but growing yb,s are usually hungry quickly , and can be let out b4 feeding time ,,,,,,,,,,,,im wondering if its new birds that are allready been flying that your bringing in,,or young ones straight from the nest
  6. very very true spin cycle ;D ;D ;D,,,,,,,,,,as for your birds , i dont think you should worry, as long as theve been basket trained and able to drink out the panniers ,theil be ok,,,,good luck in your race

another one killed today :'( :'( :'( this is getting really bad
  11. i would think , the" powers that be " would, or should have a good reason for this, but it certainly wont do the birds any harm
  12. i was also thinking the poster meant this ,but you have explained better than i could ;D
  13. that brings to mind a freind of mine putting quales eggs under a pair of racers, they sat on them hatched them , but it was him that got the fright when he went in the loft and saw these things running about, he near collapsed ;D ;D
  14. i fully agree with this ;D,,,,,and your quest goes on for a long long time ;D
  15. maybe taken a knock earlier , but seems ok now if shes doing an hour and a half :)
  16. ;D ;D ;D if you stopped feeding him , he might ,,,just might go home [och just let him in the kitchen ;D ;D ;D david will give you the tips ;D ;D ;D,,,good luck anyway
  17. this is quite true coey, even if their ranging [going away for a while, then returning] for an hour or so, their naturaly finding out their surroundings , probably within a good few miles in all directions, so they are learning a lot by doing this , but as shadow says once you start training they will stop this , so really then , their better off trained every day if possible b4 racing , then even 2 or 3 times per week when racing [depending on the type of race theve had i.e easy or hard ]
  18. no, not stupid at all, , its getting them used to the basket ,confidence in the basket and able to feed and water in the basket, sometimes yb,s are very stubborn and will not drink from the drinker on the basket , after ive had them in the basket a few times and see that they have now settled a bit ,instead of fighting , i would feed first in the loft ,,,without water , then after half hour or so, basket them, again let them settle , then fill drinkers with a watering can, letting them here the water splash , once theve taken a drink once, they never forget , yb,s deheydrate quickly ,especialy on warm days on the transporter , so its very important they know where to find water ,and be able to drink
  19. i dont think its a bad thing,, there are many who feed once a day , many who hopper feed ,many 2 or three times , so theres many ways,, but if a bird is hungry when let out to excercise , it probably wont fly too long , so maybe try letting them out with a little food in them
  20. sometimes see them advertised in the "cage and aviary" mag
  21. i take it you mean , grit and black minerals , when they are feeding youngsters they will eat a lot of this [and will need it] but when not feeding youngsters they will eat a little [but still need it] i think its better to put just enough in the pots that they need ,and give it fresh fresh each day ,, if these pots get damp and soiled , they can be a haven for worm and cocci oocysts [eggs]
  22. yb,s like anything young are very curious , they will , if allowed go from one roof to the next , and then the next , i have found by letting them out hungryish , throwing a few handfulls of conditioner ,or any small seed on top of the loft, then have a catapult , fire some chopped potatoe squares , when they try land on the roof , have a very yb on the loft roof top [not flying yet] persevere ,allways use the catapult and potatoe [wont damage tiles etc ], and theyll soon get into the habit of landing on the loft, what they learn when their young ,be it good habit or bad habit , will be with them when they are older
  23. ;D ;D ;D off course this was me just joking ;D but it did look nice ,,, now its a thought symbro, if they would take to different colours , and what colours :) this pair sat on this one ok , off course it was a dummy egg ,but wonder what other colours they would take to [i did have a bird take to large glass marbles , as i was short of dummies [magpie stole them when i laid them outside the loft on a chair,,,when i say i laid them ;D ;D ;D i meant i put them there ;D]
  24. as long as your sure you had the dates right,, i would agree with the last paragraph of last post ,,,,this can and does happen
