  1. yes, lets try and give molly a surprise ive heard the name ,im sure of that, ill try and get the old memory working ;D weve a clue from pigeon man
  2. i didnt think this was possible chickadee, but they hatched you can keep them about a week ,as long as theve not been sat on [or started to incubate] but its usually different once theve began to incubate , especially 4 days
  3. in my opinion your right hogni,, ive had this myself, even allthough they have started to incubate for about 4 days , ive travelled wth them for 12 hours [had them in a loaf of bread good way to carry them ] they must be tougher than we think ,,,, ive had eggs that havent started incubating about a fortnight , just in normal temperatures , but turned them regular , theve hatched no probs [nearly 5 weeks old when hatching amazing really [but must admit ,i didnt think those first ones would hatch ]
  4. all very nice birds mikko,,, unusual to see two dark beak yb,s bred from two light beak ones plus the colour unusual , maybe a throw back in the breeding,, be interesting to see them when their older,,,good luck with them
  5. done so on monday blue tooner ,, but thanks anyway , great help, thanks
  6. hi veltang ,,,,in my opinion , one is as good [or bad ] as the other,,, a lot of fanciers say a good hen for the distance, maybe true, but i have to say , ive had more luck with cocks [natural or widowhood]

    corn prices

i dont think your far off the mark vic,,,,and the big sellers will up their prices , i would imagine ,, cant see the 6 for £99 in the future , the price of grub, the politics, the split ups of clubs and feds etc etc etc is chasing members away rather than attracting new members

hope you get it back young gaz,, unfortunately , this sometimes happens with pigeons, but hope you still get it back, now i know why you called it p.r,,,, purple ring

  11. dave mawhinney of n, ireland raced these birds with fantastic results and if im not mistaken" glenda" bred and raced by davie, was sold for an undisclosed sum , dave is a real gentleman whom i have known for many years ,,top guy
  12. just goes to show you never stop learning with pigeons, having pigeons all my life ive never come across this , but on that subject , i wonder if anyone can help,, i have a pair of diamond doves , they seem to have paired [some time ago] seen them tread ,, built a nest ,,large cage in fact 6ft high but hen never seem to have laid allthough sitting in nest with the cock ,,,,then after a couple of months the cock became really aggressive and stripped the feathers on the hens head and neck until it was red raw [and i seen it] i seperated them for about 4 weeks till the hens feathers came back in,, put them together , after 2 days the cock did this again , now got them apart , the cock will call on the hen ,sit in the nest [had i not caught that hen in time im sure the cock would have killed it]they are not much bigger than sparrows, tiny little doves
  13. this is the odd bit???? just a possiblity, but see if any neighbours have put down weed killer , this is the time gardeners use it , its possible the bird has been poisoned , thats why i adviced post portem , sometimes we jump to conclusions , but as i said p.m. would be able to tell you

  18. this is an excellent post , valteng,[from tony c ] i would maybe add that its hours on the wing , and not distance [tony,s more or less explained that in a different way ] but maybe explain it this way valtang , ,,,a bird flying ,say 180 miles in 3 hours [velocity 1760 or 60 miles per hour]]would take less recouperating time , than a bird flying 180 miles in say,6 hours hours[ velocity 880 or 30 miles per hour] this could be due to different weather conditions etc ,,,,,,,,,,,i have made this mistake before with the bird looking ok , but its the acting ok that counts , as tony" says the bird will tell you" meaning its full of confidence ,flying well around the loft, bouncing with condition and life, and looking as though its enjoyimg life to the full sent before all this ,could well ruin a good bird , and learn it bad habits ,, home rather than race good luck valtang [philapines ] look forward to seeing your posts , as to your ways, and methods and the type of pigeon you fly :)

    corn prices

yes ,, crazy prices now,,, my supplier was selling at the old prices , untill someone told him it had all went up,,,, but it doesnt make sense that the old batch he paid the old prices for ,,,,,,,,,,suddenly became the new prices :-/ :-/ :-/
  21. i find this a little strange as their cerainly old enough, nearly a year old , and theve reared a yb, usually when they do this ,they carry on with the cycle i,e lay when yb,s are about 3 weeks approx, ,,they cant be too fat ,after rearing youngsters , if it was just the one hen , i would say , could be a barren hen,,but three hens barren ,,unlikely, i take it the cocks are fertile and reasonably young??? other than that , i could only suggest as above,,,,,, or get them checked by a good avian vet, to make sure their not carriers of paratyphoid [which can be undetected by looking at them] or never had paratyphoid [or their parents] as this can effect their "egg laying machinary "or cause dead in the shell, or inferile eggs , even this sounds doubtfull ,if the yb,s theve reared are in good health,,, so a strange one
  22. i heard from him once ,, asking the breeding of an old cock i sent him [sent him 8], i didnt have time at that mo,, but pm,d him and explained ,, but i have asked him for ihu transfer forms [signed] on a few occasions ,, i feel terrible cause i sent birds to coey,, father and young son , and sent one rung for gladdo by mistake , i promised young coey to get a transfer ,,,,,but finding it difficult, so if your looking gladdo, please send signed transfers :)and ill send peds
  23. as far as the 5 600 milers flying into scotland , the old scottish breeds have stood the test of time
  24. i think , a few maples put down its throat , a syringe of water down it, and release it , where there are other wood pigeons , its more likely to survive this way , if its big enough to flutter to a tree itll be ok,, the more you hold on to it the more stress ittl go through , and maybe not eat or drinkatall, good luck, looks like youve saved it anyway
  25. congrats to both of you hope mothers and babies are doing well certainly lovely babies
