  1. once again larry to the rescue, certainly looks like a brilliant gadget ,, for both pigeons and fanciers in my opinion , anyone member of " pigeon basics" say , for over a year , with pigeon lung,, should be able to get help out of pigeon basics fund ,,,, i wonder if lottery grants could be made for this use also, [if claimed for] its seems to me very unfair that these members afflicted with this desease have to pay that much , but off course if theve no alternitive ,,,when needs must :-/

  22. just going from memory ,, the book,," creation of a strain," i think it was called ,,,,,,,,another of my books that dissapeared, ;D,,,,,, going by this book , the first racing pigeons were ,, the leige pigeon, the antwerp pigeon, and another two, on the tip of my tongue [places in belgium ] pigeons ;D ,, these were blue bars and blue cheqs , so it really would be interesting to find out where and when, dr barker,s , silver , dunn, type pigeons originated. just out of curiosity the nickname " a right twerp" [please dont answer that ;D] seemingly came from the" antwerp pigeon", these fanciers in the late 1800,s came over to london to sell these birds in the markets,, the buyers of these birds were told to make a loft , then let these out and they would stay with them,, being homing pigeons? yes, they were homing pigeons, ;D they homed back to antwerp ;D whereby the owners would repeat this action , making themselves money from these , each time ,,,,these buying fanciers were then called " twerps" by the more sensible fanciers in london, then the name "a real twerp" spread across the land , meaning a person who was easily gulled ,,,this, allthough sounding rediculous, is in fact true ;D
  23. i have a feeling cloudveiw could be on the right lines ,, the wegge,s were [i think] b4 the barker and gits [i have details of wegges in 1926 ] as pigeon racing ,more or less kicked off in the 1900,s theres possibly a good chance of these being wegge based in some way,
  24. i used to have the dr barkers book on the racing pigeon,, unfortunately lent out and never returned ,,many years ago,, my father swore blind by this book , there maybe some info in this old book as to the origins of the "barkers" and the "gits" .as i remember, my father had these pigeons for many years , the predominent factor in the birds he had were ,that many had feathered legs.
  25. very well done indeed to lochgelly h,c and all who assisted in getting this grant,, a good boost for moral , and hopefully attract more members ,, best of luck,,
