  2. Andrew your donation is very much appreciated. Al.
  3. DM, Phoebe's Uncle, is a friend of mine who for some time now has been keen to get started with pigeons. Unfortunately, Anne, his wife is not so keen. Does anyone have any convincing words of wisdom to possibly change her mind. . Al.
  4. That's a very interesting article, especially as I'm planning a new loft. Food for thought!
  5. Harry, maybe I didnt explain it well, the lad I met was from Dundee. I think he said he took some birds of yours with him once to the North west to lib them for you.
  6. I also know Spinner Jim from another site and would have no problems dealing with him. Al.
  7. Harry. I ment to say, I met a pal of yours in the pub a few weeks ago. Cant remember his name but Tony rings a bell. Think he has something to do with pet shops. Al.
  8. I got a call today from someone who had found a race bird in Oban. It was heading for Pumpherston from coaldstream. Whatever happened it was way of track!!! Its only happened once before, years ago when I got 2 in the one week. Its being collected and heading home tomorrow. Al.
  9. Frank, sorry I missed your post, I was too busy looking at dovescotes pictures. The loft at the moment lacks decent ventilation I think. It also has concrete floors without any dpc. I am not sure but I think it maybe retains a bit of damp. The roof is also just a bit low and I have to stoop when inside. George. I couldnt remeber, I thought you had maybe built your own. I will get a drawing together and get in touch with the chap that did yours. I take it you are happy with it. Al.
  10. That looks the part and must be great for the birds. A few wee mods and it would suit me down to the ground. Did you build it your self?
  11. My thoughts are 20' long and a max of 12' deep. the 20' will take me to the end of the slabbed area to the right. I suppose I could have a 4' corridor and the sections 8' deep and make them slightly narrower. As long as the ventilation works okay at 12' ????????
  12. Heres a picture of the loft at present. The new loft front can be in the same as existing but I canm go further back to give me more depth.
  13. Thanks Phil. The 12' is actually the space I have available for the loft, I will still have a paved area along the front. I would like to trap through something into the corridor as when I am training I am not always able to get back for the birds arriving. does that make sense? Al.
  14. I am looking into a new loft. and have about 20 x 12 ft to play with. Any advice on the number of sections etc. and how to make best use of the 12' depth. Should add it needs to look good to keep the boss happy, thats the main reason the old one has to go!! Also someone in Scotland to build and errect would be handy but I could collect it and put it up myself. Al.
  15. Bird is doing fine. wound has dried up and he seems happy enough. Hardy things pigeons right enough. Al.
  16. I have just realised the way I worded the post is a bit misleading. The bird is one of mine. Sorry for the confusion. Al.
  17. Thanks for the advice, the skin is actually missing so there might be too much of a gap to stitch. It does seem okay despite the wound. I will keep it clean and cross my fingers.
  18. There is no damage underneath, it was just a loose feather. The bird is a year old.
  19. Unfortunately theres nobody for miles, nearest club is 70 odd miles away.
  20. This bird came in today with a big strip missing from his neck. It has taken all the flesh of through to its throat. Any advice on what to do? is ther too much risk of infection for it to survive? All advice appreciated. Al.
  21. Hi Dog Fox. Ithink your rollers would pick up bad habits from the fantails, roof sitting etc. If you could keep the fantails in when flying the rollers it would help. Al.
  22. Hi Rose, I am a member of the Oban Lifeboat crew, we have never saved a pigeon but did rescue a dolphin a few years ago. Al.
  23. It will also need fresh water. Al
  24. I was brought a pigeon last year which arrived in Oban on a ship. It was an irish bird that landed on the ship in the irish sea after flying th chanel. It stayed aboard for a couple of days till the ship docked. It happens more often than you might think as the quarry where the ship was going have had a few over the years. Al.
  25. If you post on the all flying cropper club you will get a hold of Pat. Al.
