Whats the difference between Tumblers & Rollers?
Merlin replied to GypUK's topic in Fancy & Show Pigeons
The Roller Pigeon is an aerial performer, with clubs for same all over the World,in May the many European clubs begin their qualifications ,when one flyer in fifteen qualify proper for The Euro Finals, held in June and judged by Mr Johnny Conradie of South Africa, there is no more beautiful or toe tingling finger clenching exciting sight than to see a well prepared kit of 20 rollers performing over your own space, with"control" I have been involved with race pigeons well over fifty years, and rollers much less, would recommend rollers to anyone, the game itself is something akin to what the racing game was when I first started pigeons, before monies became the be all and end all,and we became smothered by pedigrees,of pure this pure that, there is much skill, stockmanship, and no little knowledge of rollers required to keep and fly these amazing little performers at their best, but the real beauty of this game is everyone starts on a level playing field,no big monies required,no favourable drop, all with equal amount when competing, for those who might harbour thoughts that a roller is a freak fancy bird, totally wrong, each Country has their own National Champion,I will fly in The Euro Cup this season against competitors from almost every Country in Europe, and in The World Cup against competitors from many Countries in the World, naturally with so much going for it,administration wise, and the friendship and camaraderie, and cost wise, its easy to understand why its a growing sport, unlike the racing game, which is apparently declining, not bad by any standard for birds"freaks of nature" or "no control"so there you now have my input as to what the roller sport consists of to day -
We wish for your best health Billy, and a speedy recovery God Bless You.

There is nothing "uncontrolled" about a Rollers roll, back to original question a Tumbler flips over, once or twice A Roller goes into a tight ball and spins varying depths like a cricket ball hurtling downwards at high velocity, and is capable of stopping in an instant, and back to kit to repeat the process ,so much for uncontrolled, its in control all the while ,Tipples fly high from anything from 3 to 23 hrs -
Happy Birthday Jack have a marvellous day.

But back to original, the good ones always showed respect to opponents, and never dodged anyone for any reason,to day its mostly about managers, and their shrewdness as to how successful their charges in 80% of cases will be,as for a fight between Calzagie and Froch, not in this life for obvious reasons

Groups meet to discuss racing pigeon and peregrine
Merlin replied to micko and jack's topic in Predators
I would sincerely hope they listened to the real fears of pigeon keepers, but somehow I cant help being sceptical, once deterrents are being mooted, its farcical as most fanciers will testify, but fair play to fanciers involved, but I don't think we should hold our breath -
What a poor response to what is a great cause,I did think originally Albear would have to spend at least a day sifting through entries, prizes are a choice of a pair of youngster, plus a Cock from Alun Maull impeccable lines, ready for breeding, really thought more members would enter into the spirit remembering the season and the extremely worthwhile cause, come on lads and lasses, most of us have an opinion on most things, lets have one on this for a £5,these birds can be got to Ireland free if won on this side.

Jim Donaldson is surely one of the many greats for a number of years, and as a bonus his lines are also winning and crossing well for many many other fanciers all over.

My own interpretation is when people buy birds, its their money ,and they are entitled to go wherever./whoever they like for birds,as for those who wish to point them in a different direction,by whatever means, this is usually down to their own vanity, unless its a warning about a feather merchant, always remember every time you buy a bird, you are taking a chance, also of the opinion there are more competent birds than fanciers.

Happy Birthday Billy, enjoy the day, with such good friends as Dovey & Co, I am sure you will.
