with you celtic sorry m8 was offering 1 option on around the loft protection, myself i think a lot of the birds going missing is down to clashing when i look at the route we fly across the country and all the feds we're going to cross on race days it's no wonder so many yb's go missing, what i've noticed since i started in the sport(yb 2004) is the first couple of yb races we're ok but when we get out into the middle of england(woking/epsom)area that's when we get the biggest losses which i think is down to crossing english feds going north as i get a lot of stray's down this way(swansea) i find down this way if a hawk goes through em(and they do frequently) you still get a good propotion of them back and if your lucky most of them, to me sounds like your's could have got caught up with other birds and taken miles off course(they could have gone hundreds of miles) i think a lot of people don't bother reporting stray's(i've only had about 4/5 birds reported since i started out of a hundred or so lost) and like me your left wondering what happened to them , some will be hawks, some wires, some will even end up in towns and some will even end up in other people's loft's. my attitude is once they're gone they're gone and worry about the one's i got left , it's sad i know but you got to keep your spirits up .
  2. i've got a good deterent he's called cheeko he's a staff cross english bull terrier and he don't like cat's and if they're brave/daft enough to stand their ground god help em, he's as dull as a brush he just piles straight in mouth open , but apart from cat's he's ok we also race a couple of greyhounds and he'll play with them all day
  3. please give my condolences to the family at this sad time boulter bros+kelly

    Hawks

living here in wales we get our fair share of hawk attacks, in the 2006 season i had 9 cocks out injured at 1 point ,and all were hawk strikes apart from 1 who looked like he had dived into something to get away, in the last 2 years i've invested in buying rockets around guy fawks night/new year's eve and when i see a hawk bothering the birds i frighten them off by firing rockets at them
  5. 1 sent returned this morning (somebody else's b/b) all mine stopped for next year ,talked to a few people round the country seem's everyone had a dodgy race yesterday
  6. i've had 3 yb winner's this year off meulemans cock paired with a de klak/van loon hen(full sister to kulpa bros 2nd open nfc 2004) also had a lot of good birds from busschaerts crossed with jansens+jan ardens
  7. i won the first 2 yb races this year and lost the both of them in the third race which i also won
  8. not all yb's lost are bad one's either, i have a cock in my race team who was lost as a yb from woking(153mls) i sent for him and he has'nt put a foot wrong since and he had'nt done anything before i lost him,he's flown the channel out to liege on the east route and poitiers on the south scoring about 5/6 times he's the only yb i've had reported since 2005

hi tammy1 i was refering to antibiotics, and using natural preventive products rather than treat with antibiotics every other week which i think will effect the bird in the long run
  12. if fancier's around the country are anything like some around here then a lot of it is down to birds being sent to races that have'nt been trained resulting in them hanging around race points and dragging other birds with them, 1 chap in my club last week put 27 birds in to a race(125mls) after 1 7 mile trainer he did'nt get a bird on the day,got 3 the next, as soon as these birds clash with anything they will follow them home and i know of a few other's too as i'm sure most people will know

i've never given young birds anything apart from the jab ,i use preventive treatments like ultimate ,gem, garlic oil, naturaline, brewer's yeast +1 or 2 other's , we keep them natural, this time of year we got to stop em because of the moult but they've won 3 out 4 races and i've every confidence in them for next year and beyond
  14. i agree with the clashing , but don't think they fly better in the afternoon, was prob. because most other feds went in the morning and your birds had less distractions , we went on sunday this weekend because of the weather last week(did'nt lib til tuesday) liberated at lyndhurst(south coast) at 8.55 ,sent 10 last 1 home at 12.10 to west of swansea(south wales) boys racing round here saturday all had birds missing , it's got to be clashing because we get lots of strays down this way , i'd say we get stray's coming back with ours on 9/10 races ,this week i had 2 strays come with my first race birds taking 1 to the roof then i had another 1 come with the next bird
  15. 10/10 back sunday from lyndhurst and 5/5 from chepstow yesterday
  16. what a differance from last week all home in 40 mins 10/10
  17. well done stu how's your head
  18. welsh south road fed at lyndhurst lib at 8.55
  19. don't we all lol
  20. as we did'nt race until tuesday last week this weekend's race was put back to sunday , is anybody else racing today, can't imagine anyone holding over yesterday. we're at lyndhurst scene of last week's disaster
  21. hey roland i did'nt say the south road was harder to fly i said it gives me more options on the longer races nigel yes they did have a tough race in the week i only had 16 from 30 back but we were down on the south coast and the wind pushed the birds right down into devon+cornwall some crossed the channel some worked back around but a lot did'nt ,but the south west wales fed on the east route had a lot of birds missing that weekend also and they brought the birds back to swindon not even 100mls to most lofts ,infact reading reports from round the country the must be thousands of stray's hanging about everywhere. apart from last week's race we've had good returns flying on the south so far i've had 35/37 salisbury1(103mls) ,34/36 salisbury2 which is similar to returns i'd expect on the east route although the birds are starting off at a longer distance on the south
