we've had 4/5 from tours with the welsh south road fed+nat. only 2 last night(1083+1071ypm) and 2 yearling hens this morning 5-30+7-15. we're the most westerly loft in the result by about 10/15mls from the nearest loft.

what velocities are your birds doing today flying from the south to north

when the yb's start coming out of the box(or walking about the nestbox) i put them all on the floor ,never have any problems and the stock birds will feed all the yb's(there own or not) the odd cock will peck at 1 now and then, but nothing to severe. i find it helps them to eat from the hopper when they see the stock birds doing it.

the above bird was brought to me this morning by my sister she picked it up at her primary school. lost a bit of weight but not injured will be ok in a week or 2.

i alway's report strays and would like some more of mine reported but for some people it's to much trouble . these so called fancier's that ask you to kill their birds if they come into your loft should be ashamed of themselves, makes you wonder what they do when they get a stray in!!! . since i started in 2004 i've only had 1 old bird reported in hamburg,north germany and 3 young birds(from about 100/150 birds lost). surely some of those birds have turned up at fancier's lofts.

my mate just told me there's 1 in the unc 8.00 in skiningrove i think but don't quote me .

i don't mind giving birds to people when they are genuine , but as peter pointed out when the first thing they ask is for birds you have to look at it carefully. 2 years ago i give an entire round about 30 birds to some lads in newcastle area after their lofts were burned down on allotments,i've also given to youngster's starting up. but i've also been duped before as well .

how'd u know they r a new starter , i could come on here and say i'm a new starter u would'nt know any diffrent ,it's not as if the guy lives by u, he's the other side of country, he should go down the local club and get to know those fancier's i'm sure then he'll get plenty of help.

chris like me some people may be a bit cautious about giving birds away . last year i gave some late breds to a new starter(or so i thought, just turned out to be someone restarting or moved i can't remember) i gave him brother's+sister's to fed topper's and good national scoring birds, i also told him if he had a problem or did'nt want them for any reason to tell me and i'll send for them back (i would have kept them myself) he spoke to me sometime later and said he lost 2 settling em so he killed the other 2, i could'nt believe what he was telling me , i'd never give him birds again and know i only give to friends.

we've had a tough race but i'm happy , i wanted them to lib no matter what the weather , birds that can only come in nice weather are no good to me, because as soon as they hit some bad stuff, down they go.

i know how you feel pompey lad, i was stressed yesterday when the classic had gone up and our's had'nt they say the sun broke through about 1 o'clock .it's turned out to be a bit of a tough race,going by the times i've seen them birds must have crossed around portsmouth area yesterday, so i'd be gutted also. all the best for today.
