  3. No word on the Northwest Fed doos at Otterburn until after 1130 as theres rain at Carterbar but its clearing, dunno if central will be thinking the same or what or whos first in line to let go
  4. http://www.martynmitchell.eu/pigeoncontactus.php there is a link to the "contact us" page on his website leave the guy your details n see what he says hope you get what your after
  5. Aye I thought it was him. Your right abour those "Carrera" doos martin. He used to advertise Carrera Vandenabeeles if i remember correctly,i'd imagine they'd be his old family crossed in with his Vandenabeeles. Cooper/Mitchell were absolutely IMMENSE for ages.anybody know if he was in that partnership?
  6. I know they used to have Vandenabeeles and Houbens not sure if they are still up and running http://www.martynmitchell.eu/aboutmartynmitchell.php does anybody know if this is the guy who used to own it?? did he race in the Cooper/Mitchell partnership?
  7. http://www.pigeonbasics.com/articles/article44.html was looking through these the other night, bits of this are quite good to show the basics of the natural way of racing
  8. Aye the basic "natural" system is racing the doos paired to stages in the nesting cycle-chasing,eggs,youngters etc.
  9. The old birds will be a lot more sexually driven than the youngsters and will probably be split from their mates so fairly frisky .If a few old cocks were put in with the YBs on basketting night it would stir things up a bit; they'd chase or take up the young hens, some of the young cocks would join in or get jealous etc etc. just a wee thing to try and gain a few yards on the race day
  10. Last friday about half the members at the club said it was a good forecast for the Saturday and the other half said it wasn't a lot of the sites and tv forecasts are conflicting
  11. When they are pairing its a good idea to give nesting materials-straw,tobacco sticks and the like.you'll find some of them spend a lot of time nest building. Not really sure of ways to "entertain" them as such. If your introducing birds to a new loft they'll fight amongst each other for the best perches etc.If you watch them carefully they are always up to something
  12. Northwest Fed at Otterburn this week-just shy of 80 miles to my bit Undecided about how many to send atm, don't think the weather is looking too healthy.will see nearer the time though
  13. Used to see sex detectors advertised in the pigeon magazines etc.never bought any so can't say how good they are or that Its quite tricky with youngsters to tell sometimes.a lot of people look at the shape of the head, size etc.you get some where its fairly obvious but a lot of families of pigeons have henny looking cocks or BIG hens so its no easy Once you start breeding you own birds its a bit easier.you can begin to tell by the colours of the babies.I try to work it out from their feet when they are at ringing age(5-7days) and it works fairly well.If you line up all 3 toes and the outside 2 are the same lenghth I've found they are usually hens if not they are cocks(could be talking complete rubbish with this but I've found it to be quite useful ) It'd be interesting to see if any of the more experienced members have any tips on this? As for entertainment i have "Radio 2 doos" .they get the radio on sometimes-its mainly as a cat deterant though but i think its keeps them calm as well
  14. All the lofts have stall traps atm. Messed around with widowhood a bit in the past-Nothing nicer than seeing them fly right in the open door to their box
