  1. Hmmm good stuff I'm supposed to be watching the 3 bird club doos at a clubmates.Think I'll be going doon a bit quicker than originally intended. Good luck to all racing tonight, wish it was me
  2. So are they in before 5 O'Clock?
  3. cats and dogs in avonbridge!! hate the rain the doos seem to be enjoying it mind you
  4. Aye i have had plenty of yearling cocks that raced as young hens since i started.
  5. aye i'm thinking bout getting a couple visited a good flyer a few years back one of his widowhood cocks paired up to one at the start of the year as he was a hen short-it topped the fed 3 times that year.he said the hen was super affection which i suppose is half the battle with widowhood. cannae imagine the youngsters wouldve done as well mind you hehe
  6. Obviously these are all big issues but does anybody think stress is a factor? curious to see if anybody thinks the way doos are raced nowadays in comparison to say 30-40 years ago is a lot more stressful on the pigeons? the systems we race, times we pair up,variations on feeding, how quickly we expect birds to develop etc. would be interesting to hear some of the experienced fanciers takes on this
  7. just back in from shutting up the doos bloody soaked
  8. I've always fancied a pair of fantails, theres a country park down the road from here with hundreds of them. Are they as broody and paternal as people say they are? I've heard they'll look after anything you put under them
  9. Whos the best person to ask about Davie Rose?Any PB members got any good loft reports or info about him? Where did most of his doos end up after his death?whos still doing well with them? cheers
  10. Aye I've heard a lot of people talking about the hawk attacks starting again recently Mine were spooked by a very low flying small plane the other day-they went everywhere with everybody training aswell just now the later bred ones are getting dragged about all over the place-must've had 150 doos circling over my bit last week.
  11. Not good to hear that happening to people anymore back? whereabouts did u take them?
  12. They are certainly a bit sparse anymore GYA updates? congratulations all who timed!!
  13. If your ever bored on a saturday morning get yourself down the M8 to Avonbrig to watch some youngbird racing. That'll all be kicking off in a couple of weeks
  14. I wasn't at the sale but i can rembember speaking to a guy when he came back from the show. He told me that Bert stood up and said a few words.he was really cut up over it, supposedely he was almost in tears Its a shame cause he was a top flyer and one the main Staf Van Reet men in the UK
  15. Aye that Section A doesn't win itself all the best steven, hope you make it two in a row
  16. You can see an argument for this being the Blue Ribbon event.it would force more fanciers to send their BEST pigeons instead of last chancers or the 2nd string,if this was the case i'd imagine the velocities would be a lot higher and it'd soon lose its 2 or 3 day slog label. I don't think it should be made the gold cup race but if you look at a lot of the Top performance put in from nantes/chenoise/tours etc. they were by birds originally earmarked for the Gold cup but sent to the long one for whatever change in plan/circumstances.
  17. top men/women
  18. All the National and Classic racing in the last few weeks has really exposed a lot of the sports top men. It'd be interesting to see which fanciers(past or present) the PB members really admire. Are there any flyers that have had a big influence on you or your team?
  19. See there next friendlies against Iceland. If they play well enough the FA might get something organised to play ASDA
  20. I gave Dave Allens book to a clubmate recently, its definately good if your wanting to get into widowhood racing. I read a good book last winter- "Pigeon Racing" by Jan Aerts, would recommend it to anybody.
  21. Hmm dunno really.like a lot of the other guys are sayin you could be worrying over nothing,if they are flying well and handling ok thats half the battle. If you give them a weekly bath or that though, it won't do them any harm i'd imagine
  22. Van Fluffies The natural youngsters i've got just now are never out of the bath.whenever there were they out were looking for a puddle so they've got a bath available for them most of the time.they'll more often than not still choose a puddle mind you They seem to be moulting a bit quicker than previous years(body and wing wise).Dunno if its down the warm weather or what
