Had my hens out around 2:30 in afternoon.

Hawk has tried a few times today. While they were very warry to land. Came through the gap in hoose across the road at a helliva rate of knots. Fortunately half dozen craws were hard behind it .

Can never figure out when to let them out ? It's always on the lookout !! $wine .

February has always been a bad time for me.It's heartbreaking to loose one from around the loft .

I have kept a diary since I restarted with the doos and the first two weeks in April have been the worst here in Inverness it’s tough

As that is usually when I need to have them on the go as racing, typically starts around the 3rd week in April it’s how to combat it?

Aye I would agree some what with you. I've had 2 or 3 in loft past years during April. With air strike injuries! No trouble today thankfully. Both sides in bath too ðŸ‘

I notice a lot of bloom coming off them when they first leave the loft for exercise.

My hens and late breds are on open loft all day every day ,I lost 3 late breds early on (sept) none since I have crows and many other birds in garden so they get a warning the Sparra hen has a go regularly and never see Percy in winter . They will always be here so I have to accept it and do what I can when I can .

Don’t get me wrong I have my bit and will keep doing so and I agree we as fanciers have to accept the fact that the issue is here to stay if like me you only keep a small team ie 12 pair of racers, it doesn’t take much to set you back

Everyone was on open loft all winter. It's safe to say the doos read the wild birds signals.both sides when out exercising. They will come down onto the roof only to take off again seconds later. Maybe 2 or 3 times until they are sure. If out all winter they stay sharp when out that's for sure .

Did you fined the doo the hawk took ?
