Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 Virkon and Virkon S are used aginst disease during outbreaks of foot and mouth, etc. That is what is put in the foot-baths to prevent the spread via feet. I imagine they also spray the overalls or perhaps they burn them if paper ones are used.
paddymac Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 Any properties that it shares with permetherin?None at all or what I'm aware of

grdkeith Posted May 15, 2017 Author Report Posted May 15, 2017 Av listened to you and Ian McKay and to me yous are talking crap about permithern because it doesn't stop ybs You haven't listened to me cos I think its crap as well, always said it ain't insect borne, permetherins champion seems to have gone silent
novo10 Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 You haven't listened to me cos I think its crap as well, always said it ain't insect borne, permetherins champion seems to have gone silent Sorry mate but as you said it's a lot of crap
paddymac Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 For arguments sake let's assume Ybs is caused or carried by insects, would virkon s have the same effect as permetherin or any other insecticide?I don't believe so, virkon S is a disenfectant which keeps treated areas clean, its not used as an insect repellent.
novo10 Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 Derek, I've not seen many flies about as yet, so I very much doubt the permithrin has had time to have an effect. Perhaps the YBS stays dormant in the loft. It may be you require a year to let the test "bed in", just a guess. A canny believe your saying that andy my lofts have been burned scraped out then soaked with this crap product that cost us £30 it's a complete waste of money we will stick to how we did it before bleach the loft everyday and if needed will use nifuramycin end off

Kyleakin Lofts Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 A canny believe your saying that andy my lofts have been burned scraped out then soaked with this crap product that cost us £30 it's a complete waste of money we will stick to how we did it before bleach the loft everyday and if needed will use nifuramycin end off I would think if you burn the loft and bleach it, you should keep it clear of any nasties. Let's face it, nobody knows what causes YBS and the scientists are not going to be funded to research it, so amateur methods are all we have. From what I've heard about YBS, trying anything is better than getting it.
Darnaway Posted May 15, 2017 Report Posted May 15, 2017 No YBS and present and I have sprayed the loft twice now and I haven't noticed any flies but can't say the same for my other loft that has not been sprayed It's early days and think we need to review the results at the end of the season
