REDCHEQHEN Posted January 6, 2017 Report Posted January 6, 2017 So the club has been given a Hyperdrug auto injector for PMV Vaccines Setting it up All set up EXCEPT - can't get the vaccine bottle on - the 'end' seems extremely large and not at all sharp to pierce the bung in the bottle should a needle of some sort be attached? I must be missing something, though the instructions have been followed to a T

I must be missing something, though the instructions have been followed to a TI bought the easiejector from hyper drug (metal type) and the first time I used it I calibrated it an tried it out before starting to vaccinate after I had done a few I tried it to make sure it was injecting the vaccine and discovered nothing was coming out the needle so I scraped it and used the syringes and started again I have since bought another called HSW ECO-MATIC this model has a transparent bit that you can watch the dose for each bird as you use it.hope this is of some help to you
Guest IB Posted January 6, 2017 Report Posted January 6, 2017 It is pointed but it still requires a bit of force to pierce the bung, which still requires the metal tab cover to be prised free before pushing the bottle onto the point. I've not had a lot of success using the latest model which although it fits the hand a lot better than the former one, seems to be very prone to air locking. I found I had to listen for the 'air blast' it gives on each successful injection. If you squeeze the trigger and don't hear anything, there is nothing to tell you the bird has had its proper dose. I lost confidence in it last year and reverted back to the 'old manual system' using a syringe. At least with the syringe I can see the 0.2ml go into every bird.
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 6, 2017 Author Report Posted January 6, 2017 Does something need to be attached to this?
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 6, 2017 Author Report Posted January 6, 2017 Sorry Ian - we've posted about the same time! Do you have to remove the metal surround from the rubber bung? You could ride bare back on that rounded 'point'! We have some out of date vaccine we were going to practice with - to see if it worked and gave the corrrect measure, without actually vaccinating anything - and just can't attach the vial, but I haven't managed to get the rather tough metal 'edging' off the vial

Kyleakin Lofts Posted January 6, 2017 Report Posted January 6, 2017 Had my pigeons vaccinated by the Club Sec two days ago. He mentioned at that time, he had used one of these injectors and found it to air lock quite a lot. He had no confidence in them and he vaccinates a lot of pigeons throughout two federations.

Peel the tab back. A small part of the top of the bung is now exposed just wide enough for 'the point' to go through and that's where you force it through.
Rebus Posted January 6, 2017 Report Posted January 6, 2017 Thank you Rebus - I see Murray farmcare sell those - does that model take the disposable needles that come with the vaccine?Yes they take the disposable needles just remember to turn the needle to lock it to the injector,if you are going to order with farmcare remember to ask for th one that can use both make of vaccines.
buster151 Posted January 6, 2017 Report Posted January 6, 2017 Does something need to be attached to this?Looks complete to me, I have Hyperdrug one myself, noticed once before no matter how hard we tried just could not get it to penetrate the vial, that was using the one with pox vaccine in as well

Rebus Posted January 7, 2017 Report Posted January 7, 2017 Just been looking on the Farm Care website Jock we are going to order 1 of these Been using it last two seasons with no problems as you can watch each dose being loaded and is sold at a reasonable price compared to the Hyperdrug one which I only used on 6 birds before scrapping it, I'm sure you will be pleased with the Farmcare one they were selling two types at one time one of them only suitable for one type of vaccine so make sure you order the one which does both vaccines

Guest IB Posted January 18, 2017 Report Posted January 18, 2017 Vaccinated my 30 birds today using this gun. I had Nobilis 80-dose bottle so willing to have another go because I had enough to allow for wastage. Sterilised gun in boiling water first then test-fired it with boiling water first before moving on to cooling and fitting bottle. Nobilis bottle differs from Colombovac in that Nobilis doesn't have a full metal cover over the bung, there is a space left bare in the centre. Also Nobilis comes in a plastic bottle and a not glass one like Colombovac. Pierced the bung dead-centre of circle of bung that was clear of metal. As before a bit of downward force required, but realised I also used a twisting motion as if screwing the bottle onto the metal spike. Some deformation of plastic bottle when doing this, but it stayed intact. Ejection is also different from Colombovac which is water-based and so squirts like water; difficult to describe Nobilis without sounding rude, but even after being left out of the fridge overnight, its a glob and not a squirt because its oil-based, and if it drops on the floor its always the same size. After injection there's always a tiny bit left below the point that looks like snot on the needle. But it acts as a visual indication that the bird has been injected. Para 12 of the Instruction Leaflet tells you that giving double the recommended dose was shown to be safe, so when that glob was missing, I did the bird again, just to be sure. Plenty vaccine so no come-back on doing this. A lot easier with a gun, so given supply problems with Colombovac and no indication at all if the bird has been given vaccine, I'll be using the gun with Nobilis from now on.
REDCHEQHEN Posted January 18, 2017 Author Report Posted January 18, 2017 Our club has two new 'vaccinators', who have done all the club members birds - the idea was that the vaccine gun would make the job a lot easier - but they managed just using the free needles that came with the vaccine. A job well done - the only club member not had their old birds vaccinated is - me
THE FIFER Posted January 18, 2017 Report Posted January 18, 2017 so whats the say on these guns are they worth it, was thinking of getting one, saw them advertised as fit all bottles ,????

Somebody has had a look at the one our club was given and reckons there is a valve missing. Apart from IB's success, I have only heard negative comments about the hyperdrug vaccine gunMaybe the gun Rebus talks about is more successful
