Roland Posted October 29, 2016 Report Posted October 29, 2016 As the fact is actually there is ONLY ONE thing that no longer exist due to man kind's invention! Small pox! ALL other viruses / ailments and such are still prevalent. The worlds most successful vaccine is Polio. Now when man thought it was, like Small Pox, eradicated they stopped vaccinating, Boy oh boy was they wrong. It came back into effect with a vengeance. Now I see on another topic some believe that antibiotics and man's treatment are a must.Alexander Flemings' discovery of penicillin but an example. That in it's self is but a natural mould, one that natives used for certain pacific things … Not much good on a lot now though. Because the Super Bug has grown immune to it and rendered it useless where it once was good FOR certain things. Indeed man's trifling has always had downward spiralling knock on effects and still does. Parva in dogs for a prime example: Mongrels take it in their' stride and have no ill effects whatsoever. Ask a vet! Yet pedigree dogs, injected and treated, still often die from it! Ask a Vet! I think Treatment is a misused happening that causes a lot of the problems further along the line. If not ill WHY treaty!? It is of course vastly different from treating a pigeon that HAS something to be TREATED for. Signs of the times. Treating willy – nilly, as many will this winter for none existing ailments. Attacking their natural constitution. Then having to prop up with money making stuff for what they may well be the culprit in causing. If I have- ANY time of the year cock birds fighting for no more than the sheer hell of it, then they are fighting fit! Like wise hens fighting for the cock birds attention etc. etc. If taking off with arc necks well stretched and clapping I and the birds are happy. Cock birds quickly landing to chase the hens etc. If plumage is shining in sunlight with a glow, then they are happy. Eyes bright and clean feet NO VET can improve them mentally or Physically! Now if huddled up and feathers ruffled I look them over. I monitor them and see if A. They need a Vet---and spending hard earned cash – or B. can a Vet help. If so then I take it along. No I don't separate it! Better the ailment let's me see which – if any others have a weak constitution. One not able to rise above or take whatever it is in their' stride... Invariably most do. Then one needs to look atthe breeding parents and other offspring! Regardless of pills it will only be any good any way for paper bag short windy day races! My birds need to shine and race at ANY distance in any weather on parr with any.- Agreed due to health and work I have had some leniet times over the past few years, BUT am improving health wise and if this continues I WILL be up amongst the leader EVERY week nigh.

I have a shed full off great looking birds in great nick. They haven't been out of the shed ever!Sometimes the use of conditioners etc gets misconstrued as TREATMENT. Of course it's not it's just the strive for marginal gains that makes the difference

Good to hear mate. Shame some youngster isn't interested in racing them. Straight in any race - up to 200 miles and they'd hold their' own. Ok might not win. A few races and they would go any where with merit. Quite possible win at the distance.
yeboah Posted October 29, 2016 Report Posted October 29, 2016 I attended a pigeon moot a few weeks back , the panel were asked about treatments One of the gentlemen said he has not treated his birds for anything for 29 Years The same Gentleman Won Three Nationals this Year Now if we all done Likewise there would be no need for any stalls at Blackpool Etc Good Clean Food and Water
Novice Posted October 29, 2016 Report Posted October 29, 2016 I believe that ybs could be erradicated if we stopped racing younguns RobertI think it would help but I wonder if the old birds actually bring this virus home with them as well. These old birds are immune to the virus and show no symptoms but the youngsters are vulnerable as their baby immune system deteriorates and their adult system takes over. For years now I have kept my birds as one community but this will change next year as the youngsters will be separated and managed differently from the old birds. Maybe I should have done this earlier but I do enjoy seeing a big batch in the sky.

wallace1959 Posted October 30, 2016 Report Posted October 30, 2016 am still a member of the shu and as i say still vaccinate it makes things easier at the moment if they get lot and reported i know they can look like pictures when they are locked up but these are not my thoughts are is there so much spent buying birds in that we get scared cause its a son or daughter from a champion and we wrap them in cotton wool is this where ybd sickness stems fro immune system not as strong as it was in the past ?

Roland Posted October 30, 2016 Author Report Posted October 30, 2016 Antibiotics kills good bacteria as well as so - called bad! Likewise it is imperative that pigeons carry some canker. There is / are much needed good reasons, indeed for their' own good.
ALF Posted October 30, 2016 Report Posted October 30, 2016 John Bosworth was on the panel on friday at the doo in Ayrshire brilliant flyer and treats for a lot of things i heard today so who is right and who is wrong???
JohnQuinn Posted October 30, 2016 Report Posted October 30, 2016 John Bosworth was on the panel on friday at the doo in Ayrshire brilliant flyer and treats for a lot of things i heard today so who is right and who is wrong??? Imo the guy that didnae treat is right because if everybody else done like him we would have doos that didnae NEED treated for anything. Fanciers would save a small fortune intae the bargain. As stated JMO.
