You can buy additives for the diesel at Halfords which are alleged to help.Alternatively batter it up the M74 at a lower gear than usual about 3000 revs for about half an hour that should clear it watch for speed cameras.

Whats your problems--most dpf faults are caused by useing super markt fuel.

DPF went and van went into limp mode 4 weeks ago due to the failure of a glow plug, replaced plug sent DPF away to get cleaned and problem solved.this week same thing DPF did not regen forcing van into limp mode for no apparent reason, the garage thinks it could be down to vaporiser fault but this ussauly blows the fuse when this occurs but fuse is fine have had the DPF cleaned again for free by the garage,£300 to change the vaporiser but not 100% this is the cause if the DPF goes again it's a £500 fix

The dpf is like a filter in the exhasust which can be blocked or partially blocked by a few things --most common is due to supermarket fuel ---can only describe this asuseing open cast coal on your fire---very little heat but loads of soot ,but if you use deep mined coal ,loads of heat veryy little soot.

THe second way--on modern engines you have an exhaust gas recicling valve -these do go wrong and cause too much recicling causeing incomplete burn and block partical filter .

3rd injector fault or wrong signal causeing overfueling -- more soot -- blockage of dpf

4th engine is burning engine oil due to wear or turbo seals or head gasket blow into oil way ---this causes soot and blocks dpf.

Most modern engines have a small pipe in front of dpf and one behind dpf ,these pipes are connected to a differencial sensor which can fault due to soot and i change when doing dpf clean on most motors.

The vehicle must be connectedd to a suitable diagnostic machine not a micky mouse one and read on live data so assumptions can be made.also read exhaust gases they can tell you loads.

Additives to the fuel are to raise the seatain rating of ghe fuel the try and raise temp in exhaust to burn off soot

Running down motorway at high revs does the same - its called exhaust regen but if fault on engine -- no good.

Some vehicles have a second tank and are filled with pats fluid which is filled during service as it is filled under vehicle---this fluid is added to clean particle filter.

SO - IF YOU OWN A MODERN DIESEL ---ONLY ----ONLY --ONLY ,use esso v power ,bp ultimate or shell, not surre what their top fuel is------- these companies sell oil not loafs of bread like morrisons or asda

USE BEST QUALITY FUEL ---20 QUIDS WORTH OF DEAR DOES MORE MILES THAN --20 quid of cheap and keeps engine internal parts clean.

TURBOS also block with soot.

That's the first question the garage asked if I had been running on Tesco diesel,if that's the cause then it's been a false economy taking into account what the repairs have cost no more supermarket fuel from now on

Ma boy master tech felt me long time ago stay away from supermarket fuel the damage is like night an day with fuel tanks only after a year of using it on brand new cars thousands of £££££££ of damage

if it,s the exhaust gas recycling valve you can block it off with a wafer, works on my Mondeo 2.2 anyway.

But it won't pass a MOT if you disable it

Posted

AA MAN did the wafer job for me.SAID LOADS are driving around with it .

Not a mechanic mate but if it's the DPF he's disabled if defo won't pass the MOT but as I said am not a mechanic

You can get it cut out and re welded and the computer must then be re programmed to ignore information from the dpf. That would be illegal and your not allowed to do that😉

It's a fcking nightmare 2012 transit owned it from new you would think you would get atleast 10 year out of it only 88000 miles new wan £16000 plus vat what happened to petro vans the possibility is becoming more viable

That's the problem nowadays Vinnie, when they are out of warranty its a nightmare, especially up here when there are no main dealers, My Renault has 4 year warranty and will be getting traded in next year before its up. Done that with my last 2 and they didn't do too bad, cost me around 4 .5 grand to trade in for new after 3 years.

If a D.P.F is removed and it is visably obvious to an mot tester then this is a failure

If the E.G.R valve (exhaust gas recycling valve) is blanked off the van ecu will generate a fault and this will say low air flow through EGR Valve---and will need ecu remapping to compensate and stop van dropping into limp mode.

To give an inexpensive fix some mechanics use a blank with a 10mm hole so some air flows ---but if egr is the fault you will generate a PO400 code when read by scanner.

Cheap scanners dont always read correctly and can miss fault codes.

ALWAYS USE CORRECT ENGINE OIL FOR YOUR MOTOR---NEW CAR USE LOW ASH OIL.

SOMEONE WITH MORE UPSTAIRS THAN ME OR YOU DESIGNED THESE TO RUN ON SPECIAL OIL

Faked up today again had enough went out and bought a new VW transporter get it on Monday hope I have more luck this time around

Hope so Vinnie, nothin worse than an unreliable van/motor especially at this time of year.

New vw engine uses pizo injectors they dont like contaminated fuel ---so no putting fuel from 5 gal can---service regular with correct oil.

Set of injectors for this type of engine are 870 trade and fueling is milage dependant so dont fiddle with speedo .

Nice motors when they are running right.
