Read an article on elimar about a company, started by a group of vets, who state that they have a product that has greatly decreased the number of bird losses on the continent, by using their product on the transporters water system. It claims the product, that can be taken by both animal and humans prevents the spread of disease in the transporter therefore healthier birds return home, the company is schroeder & tollisan they have their own website and the product is DF30000 Dostofarm, might be worth having a look.

There are plenty of products that can do this - but it's the fanciers themselves that will not allow it, if it has to be voted on (spoken from experience, some fanciers see it as medication and will not allow an organisation to medicate their birds - they are their own worst enemy)

Couldn't have put it better myself Sue.No need to pay silly money to kill the nasties.

putting stuff in the water will not prevent ybs as this is a virus which is transmitted in the air also when pigeons are carrying the virus are sick in the basketthen other pigeons eat that food thats when the spread starts its up to the fanciers who have ybs in there lofts to have a bit of commensence for the sake of other fanciers to stop racing but fanciers still keep sending knowing they have it result is you then have a outbreak of ybs one thing I have proposed in the past to help to try to stop the spread is each fanciers pigeons if possible go into there own baskets on the transporters this would maybe help as if pigeons bring up food then it is only that fanciers pigeons that are getting infected but at the end of the day its up to fanciers to have a wee bit common sense but some aare lacking in this and race at all cost

Milton sterilising tablets are cheap, kill all bacteria and viruses in the water and is safe for the birds to drink. Don't see a future for a business trying to compete with a multi national company who produce a similar product at a much lower price. Jmo

miltons cannot be put in galvansed drinkers or tanks a it causes a reaction with the metal

Didnae know that happened. Tanks on our motors are plastic and drinking troughs are aluminium, would it react in an ally trough or just galvanised ?

think every club should have a rule that young birds should not be fed going to the race ,ok might upset some people but it will certainly stop the spread of any nasties when birds are sick in basket :001: :001: :001:

COMMON SENSE....This is exactly how it should be done, we did this in the Kirkintilloch club many years ago and it paid dividends. Before any eejit says there is an advantage having all yer doos in the one basket then think about this, if there was an advantage( and there isn't imo ) then everybody in the club has the same advantage as everyones doos are in their own basket.

exactly derek when the birds are liberated they are all up in the sky mostly together some people have never seen a liberation imo this should be done for atleast the first four or five youngbird races

The biggest problem with all yer birds in the same basket is if there is an escape from the transporter. It does happen and if all yer birds are in the same basket they escape from then yer oot the race.

I for one would be more than happy with that John as I know they had not been mixed with the sickos and would be healthy for the next race omo.
