When I was stray officer I used to use my own baskets to ferry the strays. This was deliberate as I wanted my Ybs exposed to as many bacteria/viruses as possible. Madness ??

Maybe but I think it even more madness when a stray lands on a loft and the fancier won't even let the poor cant in his loft in case it's got a disease. There IMO lies the problem with Non reporting of strays, they canny report what they won't let in and I think this applies to a large percentage of fanciers. If it's no for disease reasons then it's because they canny be bothered way the hassle. Disnae help when owners are 'suggesting' the finder dispose of it which is as prevalent as ppl no given house room tae them.

My conclusion to this is its Self inflicted on the back of scare stories about YBS PMV PARATYPHOID ( though that should be PARANOIA) or any other fad illness fanciers are claiming they know of.

Ps. I haven't had to put down a single Yb this season and I believe it's because my Doos are more resistant to disease because of the exposure to it. Again jmo

Hi John

Madness yes unless you are vaccinated for Circo Virus (YBS) Paramyxo Virus and Salmonella Virus (Paratyphoid)

and treated for Chlamydia This only leaves Herpies Virus and Pigeon Pox Virus

I have also excluded Paramyxo 2 which there is no vaccine or cure

Cheers and Good luck with your Young Birds

Not every pigeon that gets lost is sick .the main culprit is the hawks young birds once they have been hit fly and fly again untill there done in and have no reserves to pick there self's up to make it home the next day simple

This is the biggest problem in UK. All this vaccinating for PMV is a money making racket. Sickness bad pigeons and poor fanciers also play a part .Peregrines don't care how good or bad birds are .

Derek am no talking about the 5% of fanciers, it's the 95% I refer tae. This is no a 2016 problem it's been like this for feckin years

At one time even the sh** fanciers got there birds all home treated or not treated . . The only consistent factor in looses is the explosion of peregrine falcons . It's gone from the 95% of your so called poor fanciers getting most home to the elite % getting slaughtered to . The best fanciers and birds still go when peregrines into them . Have to agree with other chaps your talking sh**

See in the news Amazon uk are doing trials to deliver parcels direct to your door by using drones which will fly at approx. 300 to 400 feet, wonder how our birds will cope if they meet up with one on the way home from a toss, as if percy wasn't bad enough.
