Personally I think with there being less lofts around togo into and if there flown and with of predators about there easy prey ie the amount of foxes going about at all times of the day and night also the amount of buzzards you see now is a joke :animatedpigeons:

I have lost 16 ybs so far only one reported .might be because they have SU rings I get hammered by BOP but I'd have thought more would have been reported BOP didn't get them all might not manage a team if this continues really disheartening ....might just end up keeping them as pets only ...

I have reported three young birds this year, two were lanarkshire, the owners were here within the hour, the third is still in my loft, after reporting it to south lanarkshire secretary, i waited over a week but no reply, I then reported to RPRA whereupon i had a call from a fancier from Carluke, Vice President of the South Lanarkshire Fed, extolling the virtues of the bird, after telling me on the phone that it was a monkey, i agreed to keep the bird as i dont like culling young birds, still awaiting transfer, glad im not a member of that fed.So if your losing young birds Dave, mabye their sitting in somebodies loft who just cant be bothered.

"maybe they're sitting in somebody's loft and they cant be bothered " Sounds about right or they just killed them out of hand some people ...I reported a yb early in May was asked to keep or well you know I took it to within a mile of home loft and libbed it dont know what happened to it seems thats the way it is nowadays ..

I started a new job in August last year driving/delivery for Argos,I was up the a9 the first few months and stopped in lay-bys for my breaks ,was watching birds coming out of farms on my counting 20/50 roughly were racers (with rings) have been all over Stirlingshire and livingstone Bathgate Armadale areas and you would not believe the amount of birds with rings that I see every day, there was an old school in Armadale I counted over 40 in my half hour break, so all not birds are taken by Percy I think many go wild, only my own observations of the last few months

Yes, there are a lot that go feral.

In Armadale, are there a lot of Mealies? These might have been a few of Old McAlpines birds that must have returned after he passed away, as there were a lot at The Chinese Take away next to the the Cross, at the back, until they put wire over to stop them. There was even a big Pouter nesting in the back!

Where I live now there's a guy who goes round a couple of farms catching them. Reports the ones with rings on and sells on the others.

My mate used to go with him into the old Docks at night and catch them in Hessian sacks. Said the best bird they ever caught though was a BOP with a ring on it, they sold it for a good few hundred pounds!
