Dooheed 5 Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 It's a serious problem. I watched a pair of peregrines going over the top of me yesterday afternoon, they were certainly focused on something. I went up to the back of the garden to get a better view of what they were after. Sure enough a team of 25 - 30 pigeons were circling their loft. Within seconds the team were scattered over the sky. Didn't see anything being taken ?? My birds are just paired up so none have been out since last September, dreading the thought of starting to exercise them Ken how ye feel !! Eday is only the second day mi birds have been oot since last year Brian !! Sitting here tooled up to the Max !! 22,17,Black widow,AK47,RPG,SAM. Oh and I'm in radio contact wi RAF Lossiemouth jist incase I need To bring in the BIG GUNS !!

eastcoaster Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 I re homed a Sparra hen just 5 days ago another here already you used to get a few weeks until next one moved in not anymore , she is getting fed somewhere as she was some size .
dunc50 Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 I hear and read the horror stories and have every simpathy with the guys, I guess I have been lucky I havent had a hit at home since I moved here 3 years ago,I live a few streets into the village and there are 3 lofts on the outskirts of the village all getting hit on a regular basis maybe deflecting the bop from the need to come further in , there are also an extraordinary number of ferals in the area sometimes numbering in the hundreds Maybe they are easier pickings I dont know. There is however a breeding pair of Buzzards not 1/4 of a mile away that never bother the birds but might also keep percy at bay a little.I count my blessings.some ferals carry a disease the can kill a raptor this is y they dont take them, anyway y take a slice o bread when you can have a sirloin,
JohnQuinn Posted March 14, 2016 Report Posted March 14, 2016 Been fortunate this year so far. Birds out every weekend all day and only one injured flying into a tree after gettin a scare at the loft on Saturday.Dunno what frightened them but it was close judging by the noise they made scattering. This time last year I was losing one a week so counting Ma blessins this year. Also managed to break a couple of new recruits at the weekend so my numbers have went up instead of down. 😊😊
