peter pandy Posted April 14, 2016 Author Report Posted April 14, 2016 To go or not to go... That is the question we must ask ourselves whether its the weather or not enough training whether its likely to be a holdover and miss the old firm game LOL. Me, personally will either send all the Yearlings and late breds for no other reason that I dont like to have a lot of birds as I cannot pick them out individually without having to look for the one I am after and would be quite happy with half the number I have. I get more pleasure sending one or two rather than fifty to a hundred as some do. But hey that is our perogative.Perhaps a little tip for those on roundabout as was told to me by the first people on it that I am aware off.Put two Hens in a cage "show pen type" and place in the middle of the floor in the Cock section then walk out the loft for thirty minutes.. Return and put both Hens back in their own section and put one cock in the cage and place it in the middle of the floor in the Hen section and leave the loft for another thirty minutes.. Basket the lot and off to the Club house. For those who have been following my Diary I will be looking for a hen sitting tight to-morrow afternoon the later the better as she wont want to leave her nest to let the Cock sit.Best of luck to all and remember its only a hobby and not life threatening or at least it is to some OMO..
Guest jason Posted April 15, 2016 Report Posted April 15, 2016 Best of luck PeterAs for life and death, we had our first race last week and when the result came out, you'd of thought it was a funeral.

peter pandy Posted April 15, 2016 Author Report Posted April 15, 2016 No sure I would be showing any hens at this distance PeterIt's how they worked the system Steve and they worked it every race with a great deal of success in not only the club but the Fed and they were not in an advantagious position rather the opposite.
peter pandy Posted April 15, 2016 Author Report Posted April 15, 2016 Whether I an right or whether I am wrong the birds will have another week off as I havent fed them all winter to throw them away in this weather for nowt. The very best of luck to all that send and I sincerely hope the weather breaks for you and the sun shines.
peter pandy Posted April 16, 2016 Author Report Posted April 16, 2016 Beautiful day and I started off kicking myself for not sending but that was the bosses decision and perhaps now that I have the returns for the club members I may have made the correct call after all. The winner in the club was Tam Jack with a 3 Year old Hen doing 1010, The next 5 positions went to Wattie Rollo.Returns are as follows 15 - 31, 5 - 25, 3 - 6, 3 - 10, 1 - 9, 1 - 4. I hope more make it back for the guys.

peter pandy Posted April 18, 2016 Author Report Posted April 18, 2016 Egg shells littering the loft floor this morning so I am looking for a good hatch rate with the hope of a champion amongst them. Well we all live in hope dont we !!. At least with the longer day light hours they wont go short of anything.
peter pandy Posted April 19, 2016 Author Report Posted April 19, 2016 24 Yearlings and Latebreds Hens at 30 miles to-day and although they came gappy, they all made it in the sunshine..For those following my Posts you will have noticed that they have either just hatched or in the throes of doing so and will wonder what I am up to ? Well I put the Cocks out at 08.00 and locked the trap. At 11.00 I started basketing all the sitting Hens as they should have fed the babies prior, When they were all basketed and in the car I opened the trap and the Cocks went in and straight onto the nest. No youngster or hatching eggs chilled and off I went happy in the knowledge that all was well. On my return I had to wash out the cover under the grills on the bottom of the basket as the droppings were huge with them sitting 16 hours. 5 Minute job with the hose..
peter pandy Posted April 20, 2016 Author Report Posted April 20, 2016 The same 28 Hens as yesterday at 30 miles again to-day and all home jig time carrying out the same procedure as yesterday..

peter pandy Posted April 21, 2016 Author Report Posted April 21, 2016 Sitting in the garden with a cloudless sky watching the birds go about their business over my 500 Dafodills and Narcissus with Hover flies darting to and fro I contemplated the peacful surroundings and wished the world was a happier place when I was brought back to reality when wee Mary's wet washing slapped me on the back of the head waking me from my reverie. MM' how many to send this week with the forecast, I was reminded off last weeks when I declined instead of sending !!. It looks as if I will be sending my Yearling and Late Bred Hens and they will just have to perceiver..
