Only 18 OBs to start this year, I think it depends on how the season starts, like a previous post on here I think our seasons will depend on getting one or two pigeons that will perform week in week out and for another 1 or two to step up to the plate.will it happen need to wait and see.

hope to have in the region of 70 ybs .

well most folk work and make the birds fit round it,have never found it a problem, plenty hours of daylight now and it will get better every day so there is plenty time for everything

No fussed about the work but donny fancy the feed bill.

Do you think you can condition 60 old birds the same as you could 20? Do you think EVERYBODY could look at the 60 and make it 40 just by judging them?

I started with 36 widowhood cocks. One I've made the decision to put to stock, another has knocked himself up so he'll not be raced, so 34 cocks to race. Young birds I'll have upto 70. Atb with the season folk.

At the end of the season, you will find that all your best performances will amount to a few birds, you need the numbers to find these birds.

If we had a crystal ball we would only need a few to race every year.

Very true

I have 12 old birds for this season 84 Yearlings

And will limit my youngsters to 40 max

playing the numbers game i bet you breed more and more each year better having less stock and breeding more from them then only breeding a few from many hard selection is the key they need to give you a reason as to why they should not go if i find if i have to think about it for long there not worth it in most cases

8 or 9 pair and taking a few off your best racers should give you a team of about 60 birds no problem at all

dal2 not in all cases i often buy in a stock bird that has not seen a basket but his parents have and would have won and it would be full of winning genes i suppose in a way its putting as much winning genes into the bird that goes into the basket as possible

Of course you do. Like most fanciers you will put faith in your prisoner stock that you have purchased faithfully on their pedigree, ignoring the superb advice of some on here that would have you putting winner to winner and believe that anything other is sh**!!!!

im more concerned with where the person is flying is he or she living on the golden mile whats there competition like also i try too find out as much as possible about the birds living conditions are they kept in a palace how much time is being put into the birds if there living in a palace can i in my back garden loft get another turn out of the key or is the key fully turned birds flying well into the wrong area you dont need to be 1st fed or national to have the best performance in the race jmo

People who talk of golden miles are usually the folk that think that the winners only won cos they were disadvantaged in some way ie wind, position and numbers etc. Winning blood is winning blood is it not?

had a look at last years racing and with 20 old birds i could have forgot it but i think 30-35 is a more reasonable number to try and compete in every race ...

Mind you my doos were smoke damaged last year!!!

you will have to use your imagination a little here lol

well there only one winner that for sure but you take for e,g a race from lets say 250 mile and and there 2500 birds in the race there 5 clubs are in a large radius so it works out at 500 birds per club now lets say there 100 places on the result sheet there a strong west wind a lot of birds will fill the sheets from 2 clubs or even one now if you can get someone clocking well up when no one or very little is clocking around him well he must be doing something right against the odds thats a cracking performance i myself am not on the golden mile as i call it so ill try to look for someone whos in a similar position to myself
