eastcoaster Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Let hens out today ! Within seconds a blue pied from John Houston was hit and down I climbed 3 six feet fences to get the basteward it took of blue pied also took off the hawk still tried to knock same bird out sky , by time I get back to garden it has a blue hen pinned and started stripping it , before I get get help out the garage boom boom it was off , she will be back and I will. Be ready , The unusual thing it never tried to take any of my neighbor s pouters , two wounded and very lucky birds .It's amazing how quick you can move when you have to as an older gentleman.

eastcoaster Posted February 14, 2015 Author Report Posted February 14, 2015 when u see that happening to your birds, the hulk comes out. Lol the look on the old wifey across the field when she heard me howling and screaming and jumping ( more like crawling ) over the fences was a picture think she thought the local loony had arrived.lol
Leroy Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Same here. Had the birds out, getting them back in with a pair on the loft roof, sparrow hawk straight at them. Hen scattered, cock took off with hawk in pursuit and took him down two gardens away. Legged it round and jumped onto the fence the sparrow hawk took off. The cock was on his back and stayed like that for a minute in shock, then stood up and flew home. Checked him over in the loft and had a tiny amount of blood on my hand but couldn't for the life of me find an injury. Lost a couple of feathers that's all. The unusual thing is that this attack came from nowhere. No clues it was happening. The SH hadn't been circling first, the garden birds were still singing and hadn't seen it, if I hadn't literally been stood watching the loft chatting to the wife I'd've lost the cock. Lesson learnt for me. Lee

ALF Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 As most of you know we have moved to a new place after the fire 16 months ago 2 weeks ago we let the old doos that were left from the old place out to try and break them and it husnae went too great 4 missing from 7 let out but we got a doo reported on thursday afternoon in the vets surgery and it was 1 of the doos we tried to break to the new place which is only 600 yds or so from the old place The thing is the doo reported is 4 yrs old and has been a consistent racer taking a few club tickets for John (my partner) but he was reported in Clydebank and i went to collect him yesterday morning and whe was in some mess when i got him no tail feathers at all only 4 flights left in 1 wing ripped to bits on his back and a hole underneath tae god knows how he has survived as the injuries urnae fresh and look at least 4-5 days old but the vet gave him an anti biotic injection so the wee man will get a chance to recover he might no race again but am no putting him doon But the question is both lofts 600 yds apart and he gets reported miles away in Clydebank expletive remove

Valiant Fifer Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 yeah something wrong thee Alan. Sounds like BOP, its probably been hanging about between old loft and new address so has been a bit vulnerable hanging about the place. Its a shame cause the poor bird just wants a spin and would be looking for its old loft maybe flying a bit high having a look around when maybe a Percy appeared n scared him off. :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:
VMS Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Lost 2 in the last couple of weeks to Percy ,gutted the last one was a Davy Donaldson cock I got at the South Lanarkshire late bred sale,in fact gutted is a understatement .And Sparrow hawk had a hold of a yearling earlier this week but it managed to escape, lucky sparrow hawk.
