peter pandy Posted November 24, 2014 Report Posted November 24, 2014 fluffed up, watery green droppings, and a test kit that was positive from avianlabs Introflor which is Florenicol 10ml x 1Ltr water for 3 days is what is reccomended for poultry if confirmed by Vet.
sparko Posted November 24, 2014 Author Report Posted November 24, 2014 Introflor which is Florenicol 10ml x 1Ltr water for 3 days is what is reccomended for poultry if confirmed by Vet.Why not Baytril Peter ? and also what do you think to these tests with florenicol ?Paratyphoid caused by Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium is the main bacterial disease in pigeons. The ability of Salmonella serovar Typhimurium to persist intracellularly inside pigeon macrophages results in the development of chronic carriers, which maintain the infection in the flock. In this study, the effect of drinking-water medication with florfenicol on Salmonella infection in pigeons was examined. The pharmacokinetics of florfenicol in pigeons revealed a relatively high volume of distribution of 2.02 liters/kg of body weight and maximum concentrations in plasma higher than the MICs for the Salmonella strain used (4 microg/ml) but quick clearance of florfenicol due to a short half-life of 1.73 h. Together with highly variable bioavailability and erratic drinking-water uptake, these parameters resulted in the inability to reach a steady-state concentration through the continuous administration of florfenicol in the drinking water. Florfenicol was capable of reducing only moderately the number of intracellular salmonellae in infected pigeon macrophages in vitro. Only at high extracellular concentrations (>16 microg/ml) was a more-than-10-fold reduction of the number of intracellular bacteria noticed. Florfenicol treatment of pigeons via the drinking water from 2 days after experimental inoculation with Salmonella serovar Typhimurium until euthanasia at 16 days postinoculation resulted in a reduction of Salmonella shedding and an improvement in the fecal consistency. However, internal organs in florfenicol-treated pigeons were significantly more heavily colonized than those in untreated pigeons. In conclusion, the oral application of florfenicol for the treatment of pigeon paratyphoid contributes to the development of carrier animals through sub-MIC concentrations in plasma that do not inhibit intracellular persistency. i do appreciate the input by the way.

Florenicol is reccomended by the U.K. DEFRA which is good enough for me !. BUT whilst on the subject of destroying good and bad Bacteria as Baytril does why not dose with 3 quarters of a teaspoon VIRCON "S" to 1 gallon of water for 5 days followed up by 1 week prebiotics and probiotics. Then once a month 3 days Vircon "S". When using this product you will never have to use any antibiotics again, and its cheap..

sparko Posted November 24, 2014 Author Report Posted November 24, 2014 If your worried about Candida lay of the honey for a while, Propolis would be a good substitute.i heard baytril can raise the yeast while treating ,they are not on honey or anything at the moment apart from baytril but i was told to put nystatin powder on the food while treating to stop the yeast build up, but cannot get it here hence the message for a natural substance i could use,its ok i will balance it all out when ive done treating thanks anyway.

philg50 Posted November 25, 2014 Report Posted November 25, 2014 Have you lads not found that a bird treated heavily with all or some of these products turns out to be useless ,and that salomenela infected birds after treatment can go on to be carriers of the disease ,i myself due to copd have to use antibiotics a lot this causes ulcers ,and painfull sores in my mouth ,dont agree with treating with antibiotics for my birds imo just a spot of potasium permagonate in drinking water to stop cross contamination and let the bird either become well or not .

Yes and in my opinion there is only one treatment if you need to use Baytril
Mixxy Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Yes and in my opinion there is only one treatment if you need to use Baytril Many national winners and ace champions would prove your opinion wrong! Its a drug that has/is abused for short term performance enhancing and that is what gives it a bad name. But as a drug for treating what it was designed to do its the best. Its no worse than a lot of other drugs, some that have been mentioned in this thread. But what it does do is work efficiently when used correctly, but of course that means when not used correctly it can be lethal. Its for treating not preventing, simple as that really. When you see some of the replies in this thread you see the real reason why it, as well as a lot of other medicines, become a problem.

peter pandy Posted November 26, 2014 Report Posted November 26, 2014 Better check your dosage buddy! Thank you for bringing to my attention the dosage rate being incorrect. It should have read 1Ml per 1Ltr water as it is 1 X 1000 parts.
