so i will start there training this week along with jims if the weather holds for us hopefully most of the bop will have moved on to there winter hunting grounds and we get a break with them if we get 8 to 12 tosses from 12 miles then 4 from 20 miles ill be happy and it will stand them in good stead for next season then they will be out everyday to range all over the sky in all weathers till i start training them again early feb and see if we can get jim a ticket in the club in his first year racing his loft is finnished and looking good we got a cage rigged up yesterday so his new birds can get out and look around before he pairs them in december or jan to get them broke most are yearlings that have not had a nest so hopeing most will stay with him to have a bit of fun with and ive told him to use them as feeders for his louella birds then let them out on there second nest so if they dont stay least they have done a wee job for him keep you all posted how the training goes as ive found in past years sometimes the bop move away and sometimes they dont like many things in pigeons a lot of luck involved

walter, is there any temperature you wouldn't train in ??

cheers

soupie

yes if the van will not start because its frozen lol no within reason soupie but birds do not stop flying because its cold m8 ill only not train if there is snow on the ground strong wind or bad vis and latebreds are well feathered ive watched my birds on open bowl in bitter cold winter and they go out and fly for an hour because they want to i also think birds in the air can almost see there loft from 12 miles and we dont give our birds the credit for what they are capable of as i keep saying at the end of the day there homing pigeons im not saying we should hammer them but we are not doing them any good by being to soft on them only training pigeons in fine weather is a mistake its britain we live in if we wait on fine weather all the time we would only get two or three races a year if my latebreds cant fly from 12 or 20 miles in a bit of rain or cold there no good to me as thats how most of there races will be all there life

so would you still lib them in rain walter?

always do pete as long as its not to heavy and the vis is good m8 i place more importance on visibility as its only a 20 to 35 minute toss light rain is not a problem

ps but im a bit more carefull the first two or three tosses when just getting them started but once they get tossed from the same place 3or4 times they get the idea
