frank-123 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 website development - £575 this year ????? £200 last year ask richard (webmaster)to host it ypres race not enough birds sent replace falaise with ypres or can it only be the one weekend if so cancel it engraving up £1500 accountants up £1000 did we look for cheaper prices? 71 members owe £2000 why not give them a call
jock3 Posted January 9, 2009 Author Report Posted January 9, 2009 ib we should keep cost down , members should not be asked to keep putting there hands in there pockets ,when there saving to be made ,,
Guest youngzimmy Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 i heartly agree with jock3 part time would be the road to go down large saving that can be redistributed for other nessesitys and if the present secretary holder of the post does not agree get one who does we are asked to pay pay pay more and more all the time some of us cannot afford it cost cutting should be thourely looked at
Delboy Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 website development - £575 this year ????? £200 last year ask richard (webmaster)to host it ypres race not enough birds sent replace falaise with ypres or can it only be the one weekend if so cancel it engraving up £1500 accountants up £1000 did we look for cheaper prices? 71 members owe £2000 why not give them a call Totally agree Bart. I must admit that I seconded the accountants last year but this was with the understanding that the fee being of a similar amount to previous years. Put it out to tender every year Ypres should maybe replace Falaise but not Tours as this is our extreme distance race and what the SNFC really stands for
Guest stevie-b Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I DONT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE SNFC HAVING THERE OWN TRANSPORTER NO BODY MENTIONED COST OF THIS SOME PEOPLE ON HERE LIVE IN CLOUD COOKOO LAND EVERY OTHER MAJOR ORGANISATION HAS THERE OWN TRANSPORTER WHY CANT WE IT WOULD MAKE BETTER SENSE THAN HAVING CRATES ON A TRANSPORTER THAT WERE NOT DESIGNED FOR THAT LORRY AND BIRDS NO BEING ABLE TO DRINK WHAT HAPPENED AT Y-BIRD NATIONAL THATS WHY I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE SNFC INVEST AND MOVE INTO THE 21ST CENTURY
Delboy Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 I DONT SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE SNFC HAVING THERE OWN TRANSPORTER NO BODY MENTIONED COST OF THIS SOME PEOPLE ON HERE LIVE IN CLOUD COOKOO LAND EVERY OTHER MAJOR ORGANISATION HAS THERE OWN TRANSPORTER WHY CANT WE IT WOULD MAKE BETTER SENSE THAN HAVING CRATES ON A TRANSPORTER THAT WERE NOT DESIGNED FOR THAT LORRY AND BIRDS NO BEING ABLE TO DRINK WHAT HAPPENED AT Y-BIRD NATIONAL THATS WHY I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE SNFC INVEST AND MOVE INTO THE 21ST CENTURY I agree Stevie but I think the SNFC will end up hiring a Geraldy rather than buying one.Either way, a move into modern times is drasticly needed.
Guest stevie-b Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 DEREK IF THE MEMBERS WORKED HARD IE SALES ETC LOTTERY AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS WE COULD BY ONE OUTRIGHT WOULD NOT COST ANYTHING LIKE SOME SAY USE FOR CHANNEL AND YBIRDS AND FOR INLAND IT CAN BE USED WITH SOME FED TRANSPORTERS
Delboy Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 DEREK IF THE MEMBERS WORKED HARD IE SALES ETC LOTTERY AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS WE COULD BY ONE OUTRIGHT WOULD NOT COST ANYTHING LIKE SOME SAY USE FOR CHANNEL AND YBIRDS AND FOR INLAND IT CAN BE USED WITH SOME FED TRANSPORTERS Yes, the SNFC would have to hire it out to feds if they bought one. I dont care how they obtain a Geraldy( buy/hire ) as long as they do. ps Stevie, stop shouting
Guest stevie-b Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 SORRY DEREK I FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT IT AS U HAVE NOTICED LOL LOL LOL ;D ;D
alex wight Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Our Fife Federation doubled up with the SNFC last year to cut down on costs, some liked it others didnt. I like the idea of the SNFC buying a new state of art transporter and hiring it out to a federation, thus generating money when not in use at nationals. Fife federations transporter is always a sore topic, and it would be interesting to see how the hiring could help the SNFC or Fife (or whatever fed would hire)
Guest Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 IB i think any good busness knows before you fill the tank you have to plug the leaks first, no good raising fee,s etc when its going out faster than it comes in that goes for all clubs in the comming year or two they all must pull there horns in times are changing we must change with them all of us

Fife federations transporter is always a sore topic, and it would be interesting to see how the hiring could help the SNFC or Fife (or whatever fed would hire) Perhaps an option that could be successful is for the SNFC to put a tender out to all the federations for a joint partnership at owning the best transportation available.
alex wight Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Perhaps an option that could be successful is for the SNFC to put a tender out to all the federations for a joint partnership at owning the best transportation available. In the end Gareth, its got to help by sharing the cost. Dont know the best way to do it. Fife have always opted for a trailer as having a lorry brings its own costs ie tax mot insurance ect. But the size of trailer we have is costing us a fair bit to run at the moment. I would like to see the framing to be removeable, so that we can just store that. Then hire a flat bed lorry for the season, putting the framing onto that. Once finished return the lorry, so that cuts the costs down. It was just an idea, never realy looked into the hiring side
me Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 No apologies for stating the obvious, if you wish to make savings you first look at where the major losses are occurring, not piddlin figures like the Secy salary, which to me anyhow if you are hooked on that, looks pretty like you're following another agenda. Look no further than the channel races account. What are we doing wrong here, and how do we correct it? Spending £100,000 on geraldy transporters, like some would like, is also not the way to go, you need to down the transport costs, joint convoying with other organisations to shared race points, coupled with higher birdage charges and / or higher annual fees. Need to get real with the real cost of doing things in 21st century, and how to make available resources go further. 100% spot on Bruno lad there are those on here who quite clearly have their own agenda and constantly grind their political axe for their own purposes. Its not only blatantly obvious its also getting a bit tedious.
frank-123 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 me you are tedious in your comments shall we not discuss the balance sheet or ways to save the snfc money
mazzie Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 my accountant does all my tax, vat, balence sheets for 700 a year thats her visting me 2 a month for all invocies and stuff also gives me a monthly profit/ loss report every month and shes based in coatbridge
frank-123 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 my brother in law's company last year turnover of 1.1 million accounts fees £3,500
The Grass Cutter Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 At last years AGM under Recommendations Item 3 the committee was to form a Fund Raising Committee ,if it did it appears to have raised £1288 less in 2008 than the amount raised in 2007 is their a reason for this ? When you take into consideration the rise in fees and birdage raised approx £10000, the interest in 2008 from the Bank of Scotland was £1046 more than 2007 the SNFC still lost £9471. The savings IB is suggesting make sense to a certain degree, but we cannot go on raising birdage and fees to the point where the average fancier cannot afford to send his birds to the races. Prudent housekeeping by the SNFC is the only answer. ME must realise members care about the SNFC and only want it back to its former glory and the Forum is one of the few places which allows them to air their views. They have travelled from all over Scotland to several SNFC meetings and not been allowed to air there views.
JADE Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 various good points made but as usual it will probably turn into a rammy at the agm with every one trying to have a say and getting pretty much nowhere. my views on the various points are... we must try to make savings but how is a different matter. i would think the secs salary could be reduced but if you make the job part time will there be any takers? delboy says its just a few meetings and 6 or 7 races. incoming fees and applications have to be dealt with the membership[ packs have to go out diplomas printed balance sheet and agm agendas sent out transport etc arranged and probably several other things which i wont have thought of. then you have 6 races in approx 7 weeks and expect results out within 3 days. you therefore need an unemployed or retired person as someone with another job would not cope with the work involved. looking at the balance sheet...is the franking machine value for money? committee meeting expenses seem high to me! no way should the dinner lose £2000!! accountancy fees seem high but if you chop and change every year it could be counter productive as a firm takes time to get to know your business. engraving etc also seems high but there are a lot of trophies. the main problem is lack of entries. as every federation knows it costs the same to send an empty transporter as a full one! the channel races are losing money so the only option is share convoying or put the birdage up. personally i would not be in favour of a liberation with another organisation at alencon (or rennes) as it takes away the 500 mile plus element i.e the birds get a drag up the road. enough just now more later maybe
Guest IB Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 On the Secy fees: £13000 p/a might sound a lot of money, but there is such a thing as parity and the going rate. It's the going rate for a new apprentice, so its near the bottom of bottom pay scales. How much do other Classic clubs pay and are they full- or part-time? On Accountant: you want the same people because they know the business, they know every industry financial mismanagement issues / ploys, and therefore keep an independant watch on members' monies. They will also give you a professional opinion on where money is going in their summary at AGM. Might be worth listening closely to that summary. On geraldy: remember that for the moment this type of transporter is a minority in Scotland. If we are planning extra income from joint convoying, then it can't be with these Fed's wicker baskets; if we plan to joint convoy with other organisations to shared racepoints, then we are limited to those who use geraldies. How many are there in Britain? On losses: we raised prices last year to wipe-out a £10,000 deficit - principally caused by the race account - which should have achieved a breakeven balance this year. Instead we have basically another £10,000 deficit - and its again down to the race account. So if we've poured an extra £10k in and ended up £10k down, then your true loss is £20,000. That's where the money haemorrage is and thats the account we should all be concentrating on. So forget about past glories Rennes and Nantes, and go into the 21st century on shared transport to shared racepoints. No shame in stealing good ideas and you need look no further than the shared pool of Scottish geraldy transporters that SNRPC has access to, and then look at their race account, and compare that to ours. £100,000 in the bank drawn down at £10,000 a year is 10 years to bankruptcy.
Big Davie Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 if this proposed change to rule 13 came from within the committee, and was to adopted, their would be no doubt in my mind which national club was affiliated to Walt Disneys " Mickey Mouse ". Ive been hammering away at Lanarkshire Fed for years trying to get them to go to the coast and their channel race with the SNFC which they finally did this year, now all of a sudden someone wants to do away with sections D and E to create a new amalgamated section M, who,s kidding who, leave sections D and E alone they are just fine as they are. Davie going back to this rule 13 change and the creation of a new section M which would amalgamate the current sections D and E , can anyone tell me what region this new section M would then compete in, the mind boggles. Davie
ALF Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 going back to this rule 13 change and the creation of a new section M which would amalgamate the current sections D and E , can anyone tell me what region this new section M would then compete in, the mind boggles. Davie A crazy idea Davie to say the least mate but it's up to the guys from section E to get their a@ses to the meeting and make sure they vote for the sections to stay the same...
