Spoke to this fancier on Sunday and he confirms what I have witnessed myself that a lot more birds go to the drinkers on the geraldy baskets than I ever seen going to wicker ones as the geraldy baskets let in a lot more light than wicker . We put our club geraldy baskets out side on a Friday with the drinkers up and you would be amazed how many take a drink from them .

Basket training ybs can help but don't think all the birds can get to the drinker .

You are absolutely correct with this post, I have never seen birds drinking as well as they do when in Geraldy panniers, and that's both OB and YB,s

you can guarantee that mick!!! the odd time its human error bad weather clashing etc but the amount of doos returning injured tells you what the problem is end of story as for basket training ive never done it in 23 years and have just as good a returns and results as people that do a thirsty bird will go to water simple as that give your birds some credit their not stupid!!

 

 

Do the same myself always have and always will like you say the doos are not daft far from it well most o them are

Done it all in the past John, putting 15 birds in each race pannier for 7 days. Never apart from the odd one took a drink after a feed and never had to top up But every 12 hours splashed water into the drinkers. No disrespect but you concluded this was JYO rather than hard facts on HOW to encourage them to drink.

 

 

Peter if you cant teach your birds to drink in the basket after 7 days in it in there own surroundings dont think a weekend in a transporter will make much diffrence to them

Every comment has its valid points when I wean my YB to their own section I don't

Dip their heads in the fountain they teach themselves to drink or learn from others

And very rarely do I have a problem with them ,and it believe the same happens in

The panniers.

Tuesday morning I put 60 Kgs of feed into a drum then decided it was not where it was supposed to be so lifted it and dislocated spine discs so, being at a loose end sitting with a heat lamp on my back and bored to tears as I had hedges to cut which was going to have to wait till recovery has taken place I reckoned I could start a little controversy hence this post. Having instigated over 1,000 views no doubt some fanciers would have thought I may be correct or I could have something their. I can only thank those who posted replies whether you thought it was drivel or otherwise but this is what Basics is about to my mind.
