Surely if we go to Ingleton that means we have to go Midleton the following week and so on ,

That changes the whole race program or am I wrong.I say we go to Midleton this week it's the

4 th race and we are still under 100 miles .

The fed has got nothing to do with the national the fed should be looking after it's members and their birds not what suits the nat men

ive not got my book to hand but its a good race race for our ypres birds to dell and thats lanarkshire

Agree Wullie

It's the lack of information that's the problem surely this would have been discussed when they changed race points last week it's not difficult to tell members what's happening

Might be raining Watty back to otterburn lol

get them tae midleton ya fearty lol comeback race is for yer national birds

i think in rules it would have been diffrent if we had went to ingelton and brought them back to get a race , but we didnt go to ingelton and then bring them back we went straight to otterburn, and wattie the lanarkshire fed isnt run to suit the national minded races it is run for members.which majority, will prob not be members of natoinal, clubs will just need to do our own training, ps the pole -cat next door asked me to leave you the hivis so she could keep an eye on you LOL

Sick is not the word I would normally use for the debacle that constituted what could not be described as a race from Charnock Richards especially when a liberation took place and the birds were heading into very heavy rainstorms a couple of miles into the North. It has been proved that the Shap was shut down with low cloud and thunderstorms taking place and had been since early morning according to my source in the Appleby area where it never ceased raining the whole day. The result speaks for itself in our club where only 3 yearlings were timed in the first 20 with a massive loss of yearlings we have nothing to take us forward into the future. From 160 bird sent in the club there are aproximately 60 yearlings still to return. I am willing to appologise for my tongue in cheek remarks made on Saturday directed in jest at Lanarkshire and your race controller was spot on, unlike ours who destroyed many of our hopes and aspirations.

P.S. So yir lookin fur a dug that can cook Wattie ?? Aboot that young yin !! or the wifes gettin anither phone call LOL

Nothings changed in the Midland fed then? Probably the worst ever ob & yb races were experienced when flying in the Midland fed. The ob race was from Lymm, 170 miles and I reckon only 20 made it on the day ( in the fed ).The yb race was from Ch.Richards and only 1 yb made it in race time ( in the fed ).

Been reading the comments regarding Midland losses

Would like to add that I regard Andy Mc Kie as not only one of our sports Gentlemen but also one of the finest race controllers .

Andy phones me every Saturday from early morning onwards for weather reports and always puts the welfare of his convoy first

When Andy spoke to me again on Saturday as the morning progressed he said he had also been in contact with our own race controller and that the solway had liberated at Lymm at that the line of flight was clear including Shap

We had a wee spot of fine drizzle early morning in Moffat then no rain whatsoever ,I told Andy I would make contact as soon as the low cloud had lifted the high hills which happened within ten minutes of our conversation

The sun was now out with blue broken sky NO RAIN

I phoned Andy immediately that all was 100%

On days with weather reports as the BBC predicted and when Feds still decide to send it is a lot to ladle onto one mans shoulders

As for Sunday I left Moffat in sunshine to drive down to Gretna 30miles

7mls south at johnstonebridge the roads were very wet

Started raining at Lockerbie ,very very heavy rain from fechan to eagles field

Monsoon to Kirkpatrick Fleming

Hailstones thunder and lightning to Gretna

We also had a sticky race from Charnock the previous week I lost all my yearling cocks

Perhaps it's just to close to the hills

Hate seeing controllers getting slagged when they are only doing a job none of us want

Out of their beds phoning line of flight when others are all wrapped up cozy

Look in the mirror and you'll see the man that sent them .

I would just like to comment that it seems all the Feds that went the western route have had a hard time Ayrshire midland etc could the prob be partly that route and that corner from Penrith to charnark Richard I was actually cuming round to going back down that route but looking at this year and the last few years iam not convinced yet JMO

In reply to Yeboah I do understand what it is like being a race controller as I do have experience and was trained by Andy Durning. My gripe with Saturday's "race" is Solway were roughly 20 miles South of us and went at 10.30 yet we did not go till 11.30. Appleby weather station was forecasting on an hourly update 90% rain with total cloud cover "no sunshine" and satellite weather pictures showed a band of extreme weather from Newcastle to the Irish Sea which would be about 50-60 miles South of your position in Moffat. Older experienced birds made it through. The yearlings were decimated. In my day we did not have the advantages we have now with local weather stations or satellite upgrades and I depended on line of flight every 25 miles from phoning experienced fanciers. We are only human and infallable BUT to me this "race" disaster was avoidable.

Sometimes I think it's more of a hindrance than a help , take on here for instance, I think race controllers can be influenced by what they read because nowadays everybody and their granny are weather forecasters a week in advance of any race, whereas in years gone by you just sent them and put your faith in the race controller, let's face it even with modern technology qualified weather forecasters more often than not can and do get it wrong.
