Mossgiel Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Rooster, do you have any photographs / articles on Bainton & Son of Wimborne, Dorset. I had a Pictorial printed late 70's on this partnership. At that time my father and grandfather were alive and the pigeon papers would be passed round. Anyhow this Pictorial was lost. Bainton & Son had a fantastic record at distance racing - if my memory is correct they had 32 old birds in the loft, 28 of which had flown at least Pau. Incidently Dennis Dall brought in a Bainton cross with great effect.

alec guinness Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 The 1982 Gold Cup winner, Liddle Supreme making Jack Wylie one of the elite band of 4 to win the Gold Cup twice. Was a good race that night, remember me and jock timing an 8yr old hen late on but alas the race was finished in the west before 9pm,great memories though!!!! I think bill frame won 50th open that night for 5 Rennes and a gold award.

Very fond memories of Jack, used to give me some stick when I was a bairn. You could see lots like this in a very special loft in Carlisle

dal2 Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 Real quality and bred for the job and unfortunately thin on the ground these days m8. Deffo John, we have about 10 pairs of Toms as he and Grahamie are mates but we struggle as they are birds that require patience to get them to the water. Fantastic in the hand and if I had more time would do a tour of the shows lol.Seriously tho Toms loft is fantastic and some of the old stagers he has down there beggar belief in body and condition at 12+ years.Hope I dont have to wait too long before they thro me another but I cant complain really.

Not many birds won gold awards competing in 5 Rennes races some going - even in the glory years.
